Xaden's laughter still echoed in my ears, even though he was long gone. My whole body trembled, not from fear, but from pure, seething rage. He had Asher and Jared. My brothers. My family. And I had no idea if they were alive or—

I shook the thought away before it could take root.
They were alive. They had to be.
I took a deep breath, forcing my panic down. I couldn't afford to break down now. I had to get out of here first. Then I'd find them. Then I'd make Xaden pay.
The chains binding my wrists and ankles were thick, but not unbreakable. If Xaden really wanted me to stay put, he would've used silver or magic-infused restraints. But he didn't. Which meant he thought I was too weak to escape.
A fatal mistake.
