Hugo and Jessica approached the house, their footsteps echoing faintly on the quiet street.
The apartment door stood in front of them like a portal to a different world. Hugo adjusted his hoodie nervously, his heart still racing from the earlier bike shenanigans.
Jessica knocked on the door, her fist tapping a steady rhythm. They waited. No response. She knocked again, harder this time.
"Maybe your roommate's asleep?" Hugo suggested. 'Please let her not be asleep. Goddess of luck, I beg you! Don't let all my efforts tonight get wasted before I even begin!'
Jessica ignored him, pounding the door louder. "Luny! Come on, open up! I forgot my keys!"
From inside, a sultry voice floated through the door. "Who is it?"
Hugo froze, the blood draining from his face. That voice—he knew that voice. It sent a shiver down his spine, not out of fear but sheer disbelief.
It couldn't possibly be so, right? Coincidences like this were too crazy to be true, right? RIGHT?!
