He hesitated for a moment, his gaze fixed on her "Nothing is wrong," he replied, his voice gentle. "It's just... I don't want you to feel pressured to do anything."
A pang of doubt shot through Lyse, his explanation made very little sense to her. Did he not find her attractive? Was he rejecting her advances? Her heart ached with the fear of rejection.
Seeing the conflict in her eyes, Levi gently smoothed her hair back. "I know that I more or less forced you into being my wife, but when I said that you would share my bed as part of the contract I was merely messing with you."
"Levi, I want this. I want to be with you." Her voice went earnest. "Or don't you want me? Is that it?"
He looked at her, his eyes filled with a tenderness that melted her doubts. "Are you sure Lyse?" he asked, his voice as soft as his hand that caressed her hair. "I want you too, a lot. But I want to make sure that it is what you truly want."
