Claire's POV
"Leave me alone, you bastard! Go to your mistress! I am nothing to you!" I snapped as I shook myself out of his grip and pushed him away. But his hold on me was firm, refusing to let me go.
"No! I never had a mistress!" He insisted and pulled me closer, his arms wrapped around me even tighter. "If I had one, it would only ever be you!"
"What?" My eyes widened in shock. His words didn't make sense to me. Did he really believe that I was nothing more than a mistress, a golddigger in his life? Anger surged through me, and I pinched his waist, finally managing to break free from his embrace.
I shot him a glare. "Listen, Mr. Kensington! I am not the kind of woman you are looking for. I don't sell myself for money!"
"What? What are you talking about?" He looked taken aback, his expression genuinely confused as he stared into my eyes. It seemed like he didn't understand what he said, how his words had hurt me, or why I was reacting this way.
