Sprewell definitely didn't want to become Roger's toy; he was trying to sign a big contract this summer, so he needed the whole league to know he was worth it.
And 50 points?
This bastard really dares to say it!
Roger had scored 50 points several times in the regular season, and Jamal Mashburn had experienced it.
But in the playoffs, Roger only had one experience of scoring 50 points in a single game.
That happened in 1997, in the legendary series between Magic and Knicks. In Game 1, Roger made eight three-pointers by halftime, breaking the record created by Jordan and also smashed his first career 50 points.
But making eight three-pointers in the first half isn't a record you can replicate easily, not even for Roger himself.
Without the small probability event of halftime eight three-pointers, performance of 50 playoff points is delusional!
