Chapter 67 - Evidence (1)

July 23, 1437. Shining Palace

It was late at night, and the soft glow of moonlight spilled into the corridor, casting bluish-white reflections on the walls. I made my way to the Patriarch's office, where, according to one of the servants, my father awaited me. The summons had been delivered without explanation but with a note emphasizing immediate attendance.

 

Despite the hour and the weight of the call, I wasn't concerned. If anything, I was surprised that Father hadn't convened the Guardians sooner. After the first day of the tournament, this meeting was merely a matter of time.

 

– I assume all the Guardians will be present? – came a voice from beneath the nearest chandelier.

 

Approaching the office, I saw Aurora. She had arrived just as I had. Her expression, as always, was unreadable. There was no trace of worry or discomfort about being summoned in the middle of the night.

 

– Perhaps, – I replied with a faint, almost automatic smile.
