"B-boss, I'm sorry. It was my fault. Please forgive me! I will pay back all the money. Please!" A man in a black hoodie was standing at the center of an alley, begging with his hands tied to the back.
A dark figure stood in front of him, with two bodyguards behind him.
The dark figure remained quiet as if the man's plea never reached his ears. He calmly stretched out his hand beside him, and one of the bodyguards placed a gun into his hand.
The dark figure then proceeded to walk like a predator toward the man in a black hoodie.
The man in the black hoodie saw the dark figure dangerously approaching him with a gun in his hand; he immediately fell to the floor and started begging urgently.
"P-please, Boss, I'm begging you, Mr. Vernon, please! I promise not to betray you again, please!" The man in a hoodie cried loudly, knowing that his end wasn't far from him.
"Forgiveness was never our deal, John," Vernon coldly reminded; he emotionlessly raised his gun between the man's head, and without thinking, he fired the gun.
The man fell limp on the floor, his blood flowing out and staining the ground from the hole between his eyes.
Vernon remained unfazed; he casually turned and walked away, throwing the gun to the bodyguard who had given it to him.
"Clean that up," He ordered coldly as he walked away.
"Yes, boss," the bodyguards replied.
After dealing with the traitor in the dark alley, Vernon headed over to his beach house; it was like his safe place where he went to unwind after a bad day; no one dared to go near his territory.
However, as his car drove with speed, he was shocked to hear his driver's alarmed curse, followed by the loud screeching of his tires, and in the next second, he heard a loud bang and thud as his car collided heavily with someone.
He frowned as the car suddenly came to a stop. "What's this, Dane?" Vernon asked, his features unbothered.
Dane quickly winded down his window and peeped out of the car and was shocked when he saw the naked young woman lying wounded beside the road, "Boss, I'm sorry, I think I've hit someone," Dane was scared of what his boss would do to him for using his car to get into an accident.
Vernon frowned; he didn't know how his car could hit someone around his home. No one ever neared his house, so where did this mysterious someone come from? It was private property.
"You know the rules, Dane. You destroy my car, you pay with a limb. Move ahead, Dane," Vernon ordered.
Dane gulped. "Yes, boss," He replied and slowly started to drive away.
Vernon was already texting someone to come and remove the dead body from the front of his house when he suddenly caught sight of a naked human lying wounded beside the road. He knew the person was still alive by the way her legs twitched.
He wasn't one to give a fuck about anyone, but for some strange reason, he suddenly wanted to stop and check up on the wounded young woman. Maybe she might even be a spy in disguise, sent by his rivals to come and monitor his home.
"Stop the car," Vernon ordered.
Dane immediately marched the brake, no questions asked.
"Go back," He commanded.
Dane obediently moved the car back, stooping right beside his victim.
"Boss, do you need me to kill-"
"Get down and bring her to the hospital," Vernon ordered.
Dane was shocked by his boss's order, but he wasn't about to question him. He immediately stopped the car beside the naked and unconscious woman, threw his suit around her body, and carried her toward the car.
He managed to open the front door and dumped Nixxia inside. Then, he quickly ran over to the other side of the car and entered, zooming off to the hospital immediately.
Vernon sat behind the car, his face cold and frowning as he stared at the naked figure in his front chair.
She couldn't imagine how a human being had managed to get herself naked and crawl in front of his home, but he was no fool.
It must be a plan from his rivals, but unfortunately, he caught them and made sure they confessed before he killed the spy sitting in front of his car.
And even if the young woman wasn't a spy, he wasn't about to release whoever that was until he got a clear explanation of how she got himself in front of his isolated house.
Dane soon drove the car into the hospital. He quickly got down and informed a nurse about their emergency, and in the next second, a stretcher was pushed out, and Nixxia was placed on it; they wrapped her with a blue material to cover her up before quickly pushing her into the hospital.
Dane turned, ready to drive his boss away. But again, he was surprised to see Vernon getting out of the car and marching into the hospital.
"Bo-"
"Follow," Vernon ordered as he walked past Dane.
"Y-yes, boss," Dane immediately followed behind, no questions asked.
Dane was surprised to see that they had taken that strange guy into the VIP emergency section, and he was more baffled to see that the boss was not objecting to it.
They must think that the strange girl was one of Vernon's women.
He knew his boss never did anything for free, he was curious to see why he had chosen to help the strange lady instead of just killing her.
"Mr. Vernon, please come to my office. I have a few questions for you regarding the patient," Dr. Zee politely spoke beside Vernon, who had a straight and cold face as he stood in front of the bench beside the emergency room.
Vernon's features hardened. "I just need her to wake up and answer a few questions, then I'll be on my way, Dr. Zee." He replied with a stoic face.
Dr. Zee gulped and slowly looked toward Dane, scared.
Everyone knew Vernon Gray, the richest billionaire bachelor in the country, feared by many, both in the business world and the underground world, ruthless to his enemies and anyone who dared to cross him, family included.
As he'd refused to discuss the patient, Dr. Zee had no other choice but to go ahead and treat the patient with no medical history.
"Then, I'll do my best to get him up in no time." Dr. Zee bowed and quickly entered the emergency room.
"Ask Damon to search the beach house and make sure he collects every form of evidence around and inside the house; if he misses anything, you both miss your lives," Vernon ordered coldly and entered the emergency room, too.
Dane gulped and immediately fished out his phone. He didn't want to lose his life; he knew it wasn't a threat but a warning.
Inside the emergency room, everywhere turned extra chilly as Vernon entered. The doctor paused on the stitch he was doing on Nixxia's abdomen.
The nurses beside Dr. Zee automatically made room for him when they saw that he was walking toward the surgical table.
Vernon stood beside the Doctor, watching as his expert hands stitched up the wound in Nixxia's abdomen.
His silence was making everyone edgy, but no one dared to question his presence; after all, it was his hospital.
"Can she speak now?" Vernon asked emotionlessly.
Dr. Zee shook his head, "No, Mr. Vernon; she's unconscious for now as we had administered Anesthetic; she'll gain consciousness in thirty minutes." He explained.
Vernon carefully studied his captive's face and saw how dirty it was.
She looked like she had dived into the water and immediately rolled herself onto the beach sand.
She had sand all over her face and body. Her lower body was covered, and so was her chest, so he couldn't see the condition, but the exposed places looked dirty and wounded, especially her face.
"I'm done, Mr. Vernon. Should she be transferred to the wards now?" Dr. Zee asked carefully.
Vernon slowly nodded and walked out of the emergency room.
"Boss," Dane cautiously called beside Vernon.
Vernon turned to look at his driver. "You better have something important to say, Dane." He stared at Dane with dark, calculating eyes.
"Um, I do... Here's a video of how the young woman appeared on your property." Dane bowed his head as he gave the phone to Vernon.
Vernon took the phone from Dane, his face unreadable as he stared at the video; it was quite a long one.
The young woman had mysteriously crawled out from his water and onto the shore, laying there till the next morning, and when she woke up, she decided to crawl her way out to the road.
"What this?" Vernon asked, angry.
"S-sir, boss, Damon speculated that, um, she might have survived a shipwreck and got carried over by the waves, or..." Dane paused, aware he might lose his life if he said the next speculation.
"Or what, Dane?" Vernon clenched his fists, controlling his anger.
"Ah, it was all Damon's idea, he said the young woman might just be a Mer - Ugh!" Dane's face flew to the side from the heavy slap Vernon gave him.
He was expecting it, it just hurt each time he experienced it.
Vernon walked over to him, a deadly aura emanating from him, "Do you take me for a joke?" He pulled out a gun and pointed it at Dane's head.
Dane's limbs were wobbling, his hands raised beside his head in surrender. "I'm sorry, boss, I shouldn't have mentioned it. I'll ask Damon to look deeper into it, I p-promise," He stammered.
"You have twenty-four hours to provide me with the name of her gang, her mission, and how the fuck she got on my property, understood?" He growled.
Dane vigorously nodded, "Y-yes, Boss," He replied.
Vernon glared at him and walked out of the hospital. He didn't like being in a dark corner, and he felt in his bones that this mysterious young woman was soon going to become big trouble for him.
