Baldwin's Mansion
It was a quiet Sunday afternoon, and Savannah sat in the living area, surrounded by scattered papers from a patient's medical file. Sunlight streamed in through the sheer curtains, casting soft shadows on the wooden floor. She absentmindedly flipped through the pages, her brows furrowed.
Something wasn't right.
She wasn't just reading the words printed on the documents-she was searching for something, something that should have been there but wasn't. Her eyes scanned every line, every margin, yet the crucial detail she sought-the year and date was missing. That was strange. A medical file should always have a clear timestamp.
A small pit of unease settled in her stomach.
She reached for her phone and quickly dialed the number for the hospital's medical records department. The call rang twice before someone picked up.
"Hello, this is Savannah," she said, her voice firm but calm. "I have Mr. Brown's medical file in front of me, but there's no year or date anywhere on the document. Can you check on this?"
There was silence on the other end.
Savannah frowned. "Hello? Are you there?" she pressed.
A brief pause. Then, finally, a response.
"We're so sorry," the person on the other end said hurriedly. "It looks like there was a slight mistake on our end. We'll send another copy with all the correct information logged in."
Savannah exhaled, her grip on the phone loosening slightly. "This is about a patient. Make sure this doesn't happen again," she said firmly before hanging up.
She placed the phone down and resumed flipping through the pages. Though the explanation seemed reasonable, something still nagged at her. Mistakes happened, but something about this felt... off.
Still, she told herself to let it go. At least, for now.
Savannah stared at the papers in front of her, gripping them a little tighter than necessary. Her mind replayed the conversation she'd just had with the medical records department.
A mistake?
Sure, it was possible. People made errors all the time. But this wasn't some minor clerical issue-medical records were supposed to be precise, with every detail logged correctly.
Yet, the date and year were missing.
She exhaled slowly, flipping through the pages once more, her eyes scanning every corner of the document. Her fingers brushed over the paper, searching for any faded ink, any smudged numbers-anything at all that might indicate it had been there but somehow erased or overlooked.
Nothing.
Her brows furrowed. Was this really a simple mistake? Or was there something more to it?
Savannah leaned back against the couch, her fingers tapping against the paper as her mind drifted back to the incident at the store.
She had seen the date with her own eyes. 2028.
The billing person had said it. Everyone around her had seemed to agree with it. But her phone said 2027.
And now, the medical records were missing a date altogether.
A sharp chill crawled up her spine.
Was she imagining things? No, she couldn't be. She wasn't the type to overlook such details.
Savannah suddenly felt restless. She needed air.
Placing the papers on the coffee table, she stood up and walked toward the large glass doors leading to the patio. The afternoon sunlight poured in, warm and golden, casting a soft glow on the marble floors.
As she stepped outside, a gentle breeze brushed against her skin, but it did little to ease the unease creeping into her chest.
Something wasn't right.
Why everything is pointing at one certain thing all of a sudden?
Like some powerful forces trying to pull her closer to something she had idea existed.
She pulled out her phone again, staring at the date displayed on the screen. June 19th, 2027.
It was correct...right?
