To turn the Dragon Vein back toward home, merely controlling one portion was far from enough.
As for controlling the complete Dragon Vein?
That would require him to use Ruler of All Things in every single parallel world.

But there were a few worlds where complications arose.
For example, in one world ruled by the Senju Empire, where everyone wielded Mokuton, the moment they arrived they were discovered.
Soon after, they were besieged by a massive army of wooden soldiers and ten giant Senju Buddhas, the empire's strategic weapons.
In the end, even the empire's founder—Senju Hashirama, now a Six Paths-level existence—had to appear.
Fortunately, while his personality had shifted somewhat, Hashirama still recognized the situation and chose not to provoke them. He offered a peaceful handshake and withdrew.
In a hurry, Gensou and the others didn't bother further. Once they controlled the Dragon Vein, they left immediately.
In other worlds, they had no choice but to fully intervene, costing more time.
