Leila was taken to a small room where a physician was brought to attend to her, it wasn't a royal physician because she was a maid so all they could do was bring the general physician specifically for the workers in the palace.
She was attended to and left to rest, she didn't even know when she fell asleep and by the time she woke up it was already night time.
She tried to get up but a stinging pain assaulted her back and arms, she hissed and still got up as she knew she couldn't stay there for too long.
Her mother came in then, face full of worry as she assisted her daughter.
"Are you okay? I don't even know why John sent you to the higher floors, does he want to get you killed?"
She said with tears stinging at her eyes. She loved her daughter a lot and couldn't bear her being in pain, but what could a lowly maid do in the face of the palace royals.
Leila sighed and wiped her mother's tears
"don't cry ma, it's not his fault. Maybe they were short on staff there" but even the words felt bitter on her tongue, she was confused as well and had no one to give her answers.
"But a royal saved me today ma, he should be one if the princes, he commanded the soldiers to stop whipping me or else I would have been dead"
she said absently.
Her mother observed her and gave a nod "but I want you to stay away from royals, try to avoid them as much as you can my dear. Okay?"
"Mm"
Leila acknowledged.
Leila was a strong and smart girl, smarter than anyone could tell.
She was cold, which was why other maids didn't like her much, they thought that how could she be ugly and aloof at the same time, she was simply arrogant. She wouldn't speak unless spoken to or unless she needed to, she would never complain or acknowledge their mockeries and jests. She stayed away from everyone on purpose and only stayed close to her mother.
She knew by now that she was special, but continued to hide her face.
She was never afraid of anyone and that's why everyone soon got tired of mocking her because she would never cower or acknowledge you.
They would have even hit her if given the chance but they know better than to get themselves in trouble with the head of servants.
Leila looked out of the window, into vast sky filled with twinkling stars and a full moon, her thoughts unknown.
