Chapter 31 - The Ancient Cistern (1/2)

Faron lead Vexalia to a waterfall she already saw while going back to the Skyview Temple, but by using her control over water, the dragon split it in half, revealing the access to the location of the first Flame.

"Be careful, with me out of commission-" "Monsters have managed to make this place home, I know." Faron started, but Vexalia finished, much to the Dragon's amusement, "I guess other temples also had this happen." She said with a smirk, "However there's something much older and dangerous inside." Faron warned, losing all pretenses.

That change in tone actually made Vexalia shiver a bit, "One more thing before you go in, what I gave you is something... Incomplete. I filled it the blanks with my power and it should have already faded." Faron informed, prompting Vexalia to try and use her tentacles, and indeed she couldn't.

The knowledge that what's basically her best power yet wouldn't work anymore made Vexalia quite a bit sad, "Dammit, I really liked that one..." She lamented, "Don't worry, the actual remaining fragment of it is in the Ancient Cistern, though I don't remember what it actually did." Faron reassured before flying back to her domain.

Left alone, Vexalia did the only sensible thing and went inside, feeling a dark presence leaking out of the entrance, and increasing with each step.

The Ancient Cistern.

With the last few steps, the full view of the temple was clear in Vexalia's eyes, an enormous gorgeous statue in the middle of a circular room full of water, "Oh my Goddess..." She let out in pure stupor, her eyes literally shining from the sight.

Walking around the place felt peaceful, but the unease was still present for some reason, "Mistress I detect dark power below the ground, I believe this place is to seal away something." Fi warned much to the heroine's annoyance.

Inspecting the statue didn't really reveal anything, but walking did let Vexalia find a door locked by a gate, "Uuhhh..." She let out in confusion, spotting a sign on the wall that said back, rear, left hand and right hand.

Not having other context prompted Vexalia to send a beetle to the spots on the statue, hoping it would do something, and surprisingly, it opened the gate, allowing passage somehow.

In the new room, there were huge spiders, "OH NO! FUCK THIS!!" Vexalia yelled outloud in fear, taking out her sword and frantically pointing it at the arachnids, "Mistress..." Fi said in disappointement, befoe veins exploded from the tip of the sword, impaling the spiders.

"I hope there are no more!" Vexalia prayed, putting the sword back for the moment, "You're ridiculous." Fi critiziced in an unusual moment of condensence, "Said the programmable ghost!" Vexalia retored, moving on to the end of the room and to a square lock with four crystals on each side.

Using the same code as before let the lock fall and Vexalia went through the door, into a room full of water and lilypads much bigger than what she saw earlier.

Continuing through the room and avoiding several other spiders, Vexalia made the discovery that lilypads are full of thorns underneath, "So this is a lilypad, good to know." She noted and went forward up untiul a chest with a small key inside, and Vexalia could have sworn she heard Fi sob a bit.

Paying no mind to the spirit, Vexalia returned to the statue and went to a locked door she couldn't do anything about earlier, and opened it with almost no problem, much to Fi's stupor, "What? With all the doors I saw you unlock of course I learned." Vexalia mused smugly and stoped walking as she almost fell down to the lower floor.

Looking down she spotted bones, reminding her of the stalfoses that were in Skyview, "I know what you're thinking Mistress, that one is different." Fi warned, prompting Vexalia to jump down and immediately take her sword out for safety.

The moment she touched the floor, the bones began assembling into a skeletal figure armed with shields and swords, "Should I risk this plan?" Vexalia wondered before the Stalfos took out two more swords, "Yep." She decided and made her heartbeat accelerate.

The moment her blood started burning, she changed it with the sulfur she stored for bombs and it quickly exploded out of her in a mighty boom that destroyed pretty much the whole room and the Stalfos, "Okay... It works..." Vexalia smiled, feeling her flesh grow back from the explosion.

The blown apart room made the surrounding a lot clearer with a chest also made visible, "Could it be!?" Vexalia wondered outloud and ran up to the chest, opening it to find a shard of crystal, "What the-" She let out in confusion and grabbed the crystal, and then realized that it was the missing part of what Faron gave her.

Crushing the crystal released the aura which rushed into Vexalia's body, making the power become whole as her arms began sprouting something.
