Rand transfigured two chairs and sat in one, lowering it so that Moiraine could occupy the other.
— Since you want answers, let's start from the beginning… The history of the wizarding world and the First Age.
The wizarding world has always coexisted with the world of Muggles, but always in secrecy. For centuries, wizards had to hide their existence due to the persecution imposed by non-magical people, especially during the Witch Hunts. To ensure our survival, the International Statute of Secrecy was created, establishing a definitive separation between the two worlds.
For a time, this worked. Wizards lived in the shadows, safe, while the Muggle world evolved at an alarming speed. Many feared that one day, Muggle technology would surpass our defenses, but few heeded those warnings. Until a man emerged.
He was a different kind of wizard, someone who saw beyond the barriers of our world. Observing the Muggles, he noticed how they were guided by faith and found a pattern: all great civilizations defended the promise of a savior, a being who would bring utopia. Inspired by this idea, he began to put an ambitious plan into motion.
With enchanting words and unmatched charisma, he united nations, converted entire religions, and won the hearts of billions. His speeches preached peace and progress, and while wizards continued to ignore him, he wove his web of influence. Then came the final blow: a global announcement, broadcast to every corner of the planet, revealing our existence to the entire world.
At first, wizards were not concerned. After all, erasing Muggle memories was a refined art, something we had done for centuries. But we underestimated that man. He was centuries ahead of us in innovation. While we thought a simple Obliviate spell would be enough, the Muggles had already secured their records, connected their machines, and had eyes in the sky watching our every move.
And so began the Second Witch Hunt. But this time, the Muggles were prepared. Satellites guided them, drones hunted us, weapons that ignored our magical shields were fired without mercy. We were outnumbered. We were massacred.
It was then that the greatest minds of the wizarding world came together for one final salvation plan. We did not intend to defeat the Muggles—we intended to escape. We decided to destroy the magical ley lines of the Earth, taking with us everything that remained of magic.
Seven chests were created, carved from the sacred wood of Yggdrasil—the Tree of Life. Each of them contained an independent world within, protected from the collapse that would follow. Inside these chests, we preserved our history, our magical creatures, and most importantly, a seed of Yggdrasil itself, so that magic could one day be reborn.
Before the final destruction, each chest was entrusted to a pair of wizards—a man and a woman. They would be the guardians of this knowledge, responsible for emerging and adapting to whatever remained of the Muggle world after the cataclysm. The plan was simple: when the time was right, their descendants would rediscover the chests and bring magic back.
The day came.
The wizards initiated the ritual to unravel the magical ley lines, and in their desperation to stop our escape, the Muggles unleashed their most destructive weapons. Nuclear bombs rained from the sky, indifferent to the millions of their own people caught in the crossfire. They wanted to eradicate us.
And so, the First Age came to an end. The world burned. Magic was erased from the Earth. And we, the last survivors, departed for the worlds sealed within the seven chests, waiting for the day we could return.
But centuries passed…
The wizard couples who emerged from the chests tried to blend into humanity, to preserve their magical heritage, and to prepare their descendants for the future. However, as generations went by, the connection to their origins was lost. The magic that once flowed strong in their veins was forgotten. The world changed, and what was once a legacy became legend.
Worse still, the chests that were meant to guide our kind were lost to the world. Forgotten relics, scattered across the corners of the Earth, waiting for those who still had magic in their blood to awaken them.
Then the Second Age began.
Without traditional magic to guide them, the descendants of wizards sought a new path. And thus, the One Power was discovered.
Unlike wizard magic, which depends on birth and bloodline, the One Power could be accessed by anyone with talent. Many descendants who had been unable to awaken their magical heritage—the so-called "Squibs"—found in this power a new way to exist.
Over time, the One Power strengthened and shaped a new society. Earth prospered once more, and humanity advanced.
Moiraine stared at Rand for a long time, unsure of what to say. There were few records of the Second Age, let alone the First.
— What was the name of the wizard who caused all this? And why?
Rand took a deep breath before answering.
— His name was Albus Severus Potter. His father was the savior of the wizarding world. No one knows why the son of the savior became this way… But it was Harry Potter himself who led the ritual and united the wizarding community for the salvation plan.
Moiraine was about to ask more, but something interrupted the conversation.
— Time to go, — said the Guardian.
Rand stood up, and Moiraine did the same.
