Chapter 45 - The Analyst's Challenge: An Assassin Vs A Sensory Specialist

I have been running for quite a while now. I am super thirsty. I am bordering the forest too. Plus, it's almost sunset….

Just have to make it there, the substantial cover will prove useful. Without my Remnant Chaos technique, I have to be extra attentive unless I want to be blindsided. It's darker, the fact that I am color blind is my worst weakness of all. As soon as she arrived in the forest, she quickly surveyed her surroundings before jumping up a tree and taking cover. Her logic, if anything comes here…then there is no point for a duel. I will just snipe away. My blades have a range of two hundred meters anyway.

With her plan set in stone, she sat down, waiting for her unsuspecting prey to soon find its way to her. The canopy formed by the trees were as thick as the trees were large. Trees were towers unlike any other, easily 40m in height. She sat at around 20m where the leaves were thickest pf all, at least when viewed from below. She avoided the upper parts of the trees as there was a possibility of them harboring bystier of snakes and birds alike.

She heard a hoot, calming the dusk that had grown eerie due to its nature. It was the start of battle to last three months. A battle, akin to war. She heard a roar, one she could never mistake for anything else. That was a roar of lion bystier, a Panthera Leo Krugeri bystier.

Its echoing roar sent shivers down her spine as when last she encountered a being like it, death was a possibility that refused to distance itself from them. Meeting something with a regeneration factor like that isn't something I even want to experience ever again.

She tried to calm her breathing, her gaze steadily fixed on the ground beneath her. From time to time, her eyes would glance around her surroundings. Recording every detail she could have possibly missed. A strong breeze blew past the forest, making the leaves dance. A sound behind which anything could hide.

When her eyes glanced to her left, she saw an owl descending close to her. Its talons, coated in flames. Crimson feathers that faded to blue flames. Blue eyes that brightened the night. Why….didn't I notice it before? She leaped back, avoiding its attempted grab. Hardly had she landed on another branch when she slipped, falling to the ground. She released a gust of wind to cushion her fall before her bracelets shattered and transformed to twenty blades.

When she looked up, it was descending, attempting to grab her once more. She jumped to her left and evaded it successfully. Albeit, narrowly. It shifted its weight, changing trajectory mid-path forcing her to use her blades to intercept it. The flames that coated its talons clashed against the wind that coated her blades. The blades and owl repelled one another. The owl disappeared into the darkness of the night.

Unlike me, owls are equipped to excel in the dark. If I want to keep up, I need light. Her body became shrouded in a green aura when her blades released more and more light. This should do….

While she thought, she heard the sounds of leaves before she leaped upwards. She glanced at it for merely a second but that was enough time for it to cover the gap in distance. She released a gust of wind and repelled before it vanished into the darkness of the night.

What was that? As far as bystier go, that was one of the smaller ones I have seen till date. Typically, the animals become large after absorbing magic but by the looks of things, this one preserved its size. Almost as a means to ensure that detecting it would be a problem. She continuously glanced all over the forest, ensuring that not even a single blind spot existed.

She heard the leaves once more before she dodged. I don't like this at all. The small size and almost stealthy movement may be a problem, but, the biggest problem of all is that speed. Regardless of it emerging 20m high, I am being forced to react in under a second.

A breeze blew by once more, making the leaves dance. A sound that could conceal anything behind it. Her eyes quickly glanced her surroundings. Instinctively, she reflexively raised her left hand. The talons barreled against her fore arm unlike the throat it originally aimed for.

A pained expression flashed on her face for but a second as she let out a moan in pain. Using this momentary, one of her blades rushed in, attempting to decapitate it when it flew away and varnished into the night. Blood washed down her hand when she thought, I don't like this….its pattern, is too meticulous to be carried out by an animal. Even the smarter ones. No matter how I look at it, these tactics scream human.

It's attacking from my blind spots, using it's overwhelming speed to make up for it's lack in power. The fact that it couldn't fully skewer my arm is proof of that. Seems as if whoever it is trying to wear me out. I hate to disappoint but that won't happen. She began running, heading north. Even while you chase me, you are keeping yourself hidden. But, I already accounted for that. She turned around before heading south. Here is a blind spot. She closed her eyes, hoping to bait it. Come on take the bait.

She heard the sound of leaves when she thought, Wind Art: Rampaging Blades; Fragmented Scrutiny! In her mind, a pulse of green aura spread through that segmented portion of the forest. The pulse revealed the bird and a stream of aura attached to said bird. A sudden sting took over her head, a headache like no other. She jumped to her right to avoid the blades before opening her eyes.

I really need to hurry and get used to the pain the overload of data gives me. But, I have found you. Person behind the bird. Her blades spread throughout the forest when she began running east. She jumped into the tree before proceeding to jump from branch to branch. She suddenly stopped, the trail ends somewhere around here…I think or is it further ahead? I couldn't see that far. I should try again.

Hardly had she closed her eyes when she heard the sound of leaves. Crap! She moved her head to her right attempting to avoid a blade that was coming toward her throat. One of her blades came blitzing through, clashing with the dagger and slightly deflecting. It grazed her neck before she delivered a crescent kick. This sent her opponent crashing into the ground.

An attempted stab to the back of the neck…what the hell? He almost had me. But, this should make this fight more fair. He got back to his feet, he was clad in black when he smiled. The owl returned to his side. He looked up to the trees before raising his hand and aimed his palm at her. He flexed his arm as he whistled. The blade that stood guard in front of her was pushed back. What the hell?! Her eyes widened when she jumped back before pivoting her feet against another branch and jumping forward. That power was just from him whistling.

He exhaled before saying, "Vibrations…the essence of all creation. I am the wave that is strung through and through. Waning, strengthening and nullified. I am the sound." He began releasing a purple aura when he added, "Sound Art: Di-octet Resound; Decibel Amplify."
