"I figured I'd wait inside. Your landlord's an idiot, by the way. Let me right in. Didn't even ask questions," he added, stepping into the apartment like he owned the place.
Which, in some twisted way, he probably still thought he did.
Nami swallowed hard, his throat dry.
"I… I didn't think you'd actually come," he said, trying to keep his voice steady, light, casual—like it wasn't crawling with anxiety. "I thought you had work."
"I made time, and i already told you on the phone call. don't gave me any bullshit that you forgot or something" his father said simply, looking around the cramped apartment with a mix of disapproval and calculation. "This is where you've been living? where the hell does your-so-called boyfriend who you said loves you very much?" he scoffed, rolling his eyes as he sat down on the cramped old sofa. his father— well you could say he never almost like any guy Nami ever dated. he always wears those disapproval expressions whenever nami intorduced to one, that's why he never share details of the one he dates.
Nami stayed quiet, placing the groceries on the counter, trying not to let the beer cans rattle too loudly.
"we already broke up a while ago"
"Oh nice, he was no good anyway"
"Dad."
Nami let out a sighs.
"I'm doing fine," he muttered, back turned.
"You're not," his father snapped. "You're an unbonded Omega, living in a roach box two districts away from your registry. You know how dangerous that is? Do you want to get claimed by some back-alley heat chaser?"
"I'm on suppressants," Nami said, sharper than he meant to.
His father's jaw tensed.
"You know those don't always work," he said grimly. "Especially if your next heat comes in heavy."
Nami let out a groan, while putting out all the groceries. sorting out a few stuff he should put inside the cheap low energy refrigerator the previous renters left
"I know you're worried. but please don't. i'm doing just fine, like the usual"
"..."
His father didn't reply right away. Nami could feel his eyes on his back—burning, calculating, like he was trying to find cracks in his armor.
The fridge door creaked as he opened it, a weak hum filling the silence. He stuffed the meat and veggies in first, letting the cool air hit his face for a moment longer than necessary. Just enough time to gather himself.
"Something happened, right?" his father finally said, voice lower now, almost quiet. "with that ex-boyfriend of yours?"
Nami huffed a laugh, though it came out more like a tired exhale. that hit exactly on the target. he always impressed by his father strong intuitions. his father on the other hand letting out a sigh, knowing the exact answer.
He shut the fridge and turned around, leaning against the counter, arms crossed. His father was still seated on the couch, big frame sinking into the lumpy cushions, fingers steepled in front of his mouth as he watched him.
"Just wanted you to know"
his father finally break the silence
"Your mom and i would totally allow you to go back home if you wanted to live there to balance out a few things"
"you could always asked for my help you know, i have a lot of connection with the police or lawyer just in case" the tone is sure dismissive and aggressive. but nami knows he just trying his best to care as a father.
"i'll think about it later"
