Chapter 15 - You're Not Off the Hook Yet

Ryder's playful cheek pinch earned him a gentle push from Thea. "Hands off, Ryder. You're not off the hook yet.." she teased. "I only mentioned my anger has eased up a little, understand?"

Ryder swung open the passenger door, and she settled into the passenger seat. He claimed the driver's seat, clicking his belt into place, and their gazes intertwined. Thea's fingers faltered over her seatbelt, betraying a faint quiver. Ryder's eyes registered her distress and he leaned in, his face mere inches from hers.

"Here, let me help you." he said softly, his breath caressing her skin. Her anxiety grew as Ryder's proximity ignited a flutter in her chest. His fingers brushed against hers, securing the seatbelt.

Ryder returned to his seat, and Thea's cheeks flushed softly, her pulse racing. Her body responded involuntarily to his proximity, leaving her feeling slightly off balance. She forgot to thank him, her mind preoccupied with the moment. "You good?" Ryder asked. Thea nodded, her voice caught in her throat. "I'm okay..." she stammered. His gaze holding hers with a knowing warmth. "You seem a little flustered." he observed.

Her face grew hotter, her heart pounding in her chest. She couldn't deny the attraction between them so she turned her gaze away, focusing on the view outside the window to avoid meeting Ryder's eyes. She didn't want him to notice the revealing signs of her blossoming emotions.

Ryder's focus remained on the road, but Thea's attention strayed, drawn to the turbulent sky. The clouds, a mix of dark grey, purple, and blue, seemed to swirl and twist ominously. "It's about to pour," she said softly, her words almost lost in the gentle thrum of the engine.

Ryder's ears picked up her whisper, and he glanced over, his eyes meeting hers. "Want to experience something special?"

Thea's curiosity spiked, and she turned to face him. "What is it?" she asked, voice slightly louder, heart racing with anticipation.

Ryder's smile broadened, and he flipped a switch on the dashboard. The car's roof slid open, revealing the darkening sky above. Wind rustled through her hair, sending shivers through her veins. "Wow!" she breathed, eyes wide with wonder. "This is breathtaking!"

"I knew you'd love it.." Ryder said warmly. She nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! It's like the world's unfolding before us!"

As raindrops began falling, Thea felt joy wash over her. She tilted her face up, letting raindrops hit her skin, and felt an unprecedented sense of freedom.

Thea exclaimed, "Ryder, it's going to pour! Close the roof, I don't want us to get drenched and risk getting sick. Remember, Sweden awaits, and your dreams are within reach!" Ryder smiled, eyes snapping back to the road. "You're right, got caught up in the moment." He closed the roof just as the rain intensified.

Thea sighed in relief, her damp hair clinging to her face.

"That was close!" she laughed.

Ryder chuckled."You always look out for me, Thea."

Thea's heart fluttered at the compliment.

"Someone has to keep you grounded.." she teased.

The rain drummed against the roof, and Ryder turned serious.

The car continued on, the rain creating a soothing melody.Thea knew this moment would stay with her forever.

"Life's an adventure, and I'm grateful we're navigating it together." she whispered, eyes locked on Ryder's face.

"I'm grateful we're in it for the long haul."Ryder replied, conviction in his voice.
