Chapter 194 - Chapter 194: Jangmo-o’s Potential

At Misty Lake, despite the overwhelming presence of Milotic, Jangmo-o held its head high, meeting the lake queen's gaze head-on. The display of courage earned a look of appreciation from Milotic.

In the Frozen Forest, the bitter cold sent shivers through its body, yet Jangmo-o refused to back down. Even when faced with its natural weakness, it followed Summer through the entire trek.

In the Tropical Rainforest, the unique atmosphere ignited an odd excitement within it—it was as if something in this land resonated with its ancient heritage.

And in the Dreamwood, Jangmo-o experienced, for the first time, the sheer pressure of Fairy-type Pokémon.

They didn't look intimidating—just a bunch of small, harmless creatures.

But the moment they released their presence, Jangmo-o couldn't handle it.

Worse still, the strongest Pokémon in this area acted more childish than even its newborn self.

…Was this really okay?

Feeling troubled, Jangmo-o brought its concerns to the so-called "Sunset Forest Think Tank"—three Pokémon who (self-proclaimed) themselves as the wisest in the forest.

Corviknight and Rillaboom both laughed, patting Jangmo-o's head.

"That's nothing to worry about! Just learn some Steel or Poison moves, and you'll be fine!"

Then, as if on cue, the two immediately started arguing—each trying to prove that their typing was the ultimate counter to Fairy-types.

Jangmo-o, watching their childish bickering, sighed.

How can two massive Pokémon act so immature?

Just as it was about to lose hope in their so-called wisdom, Oranguru calmly waved its fan and spoke.

"Using an opponent's weakness to your advantage—it sounds simple, but in battle, it's one of the most effective strategies you'll ever learn."

Jangmo-o nodded, only half-understanding.

So there was a Pokémon in Sunset Forest that actually made sense…

At Sunflora Meadow, Jangmo-o found itself dragged into a dance session with a group of Lilligant.

Confused, it shot Summer a questioning look.

"How does this help me fight?"

Summer chuckled and patiently explained, "Don't underestimate dancing. Two of the most powerful moves you'll learn in the future—Clangorous Soul and Dragon Dance—both require strong rhythm and footwork.

Having a natural talent for this? Plenty of Dragon Pokémon would kill for it."

Speaking of potential, Jangmo-o's latent abilities were far beyond Summer's expectations.

This was the first time he had ever encountered a Pokémon with four potential abilities.

Jangmo-o (Dragon-type Pokémon)

Ability: Bulletproof

Potential Abilities: Overcoat, Soundproof, Totem Bloodline, Warrior's Honor

Overcoat – Say No to Sneaky Tactics!

Requirement: Get hit by at least five different powder-based moves and consume a Spore Puff from Alola.

Effect: Gains the Overcoat ability, preventing damage from powder-based attacks.

The powder-based moves were easy enough—Summer quickly recalled at least five Pokémon in Sunset Forest capable of using them.

But an Alolan Spore Puff?

That was going to be tricky.

The good news? The Tropical Rainforest seemed to mimic Alola's environment… perhaps he could find one there.

Soundproof – Can't Hear You, La-la-la!

Requirement: Master five sound-based moves.

Effect: Gains the Soundproof ability, making it immune to all sound-based attacks.

Learning five sound-based moves wouldn't be difficult for Jangmo-o's evolutionary line.

However, some of them would have to wait until it evolved into Kommo-o.

Totem Bloodline – The Dominance Aura Awakens!

Requirement: Evolve into Kommo-o and be exposed to Ultra Wormhole energy from Alola.

Effect: Becomes a Totem Pokémon, gaining an enhanced aura.

Summer's eye twitched at this one.

Alola again?

At this rate, there was no escaping it.

Then again… considering the fact that Z-Crystals had already started appearing in the rainforest, maybe finding Ultra Wormhole energy wasn't so far-fetched.

Warrior's Honor – A Warrior's Scars Tell Their Story!

Requirement: Master five moves that either lower its stats or have recoil effects.

Effect: Boosts the power of Fighting-type moves, with a chance to further enhance their effects.

Without a doubt, this was Jangmo-o's most powerful ability.

After all, most moves with drawbacks were also insanely strong.

It seemed that the best way to raise Jangmo-o was through move selection.

Of course, training its combat instincts and physical endurance was just as important.

Being a newborn, Jangmo-o's move pool was still extremely basic.

Current Moves:

Tackle | Leer | Protect | Dragon Breath

Summer did have TM moves like Dragon Dance and Draco Meteor…

But he refused to teach them just yet.

Jangmo-o's growth depended on battle experience.

Once it evolved into Kommo-o and mastered its power, then—and only then—would he give it those advanced techniques.

For now, it would have to earn its strength.

After hearing Summer's explanation, Jangmo-o returned to dancing with the Lilligant.

Though clumsy at first, its stubborn nature refused to let it quit.

It tripped and stumbled, but each time, it got back up, determined to match the rhythm of the Hisuian Lilligant.

Eventually… it started to get the hang of it.

"How does it feel?" Summer asked with a small smile.

"Training, improving, and seeing your own progress?"

Jangmo-o's eyes lit up.

"It's amazing! I love this feeling!"

Then, an awkward growl rumbled from its stomach.

For the first time, Jangmo-o realized what hunger felt like.

"Alright, let's take a break. Here, have a berry from Sunset Forest."

Summer handed over a large, juicy Figy Berry.

Jangmo-o hesitated, then took a cautious bite—

Its eyes widened.

This was delicious.

It wasn't sure how to describe the sweetness, but one thing was certain—

It was happiness.

Without hesitation, it devoured the rest.

Then it turned to Summer, eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Can I have another?"

Summer chuckled.

"Of course."

One berry turned into two. Then three.

By the time Jangmo-o finally stopped, it had eaten five whole berries.

Its tiny body had somehow managed to store all of them away.

Summer shook his head in amusement.

Truly, Dragon Pokémon were something else.

Most newborns needed carefully prepared Moomoo Milk to gain energy after hatching.

But this guy?

It had already run through every terrain in Sunset Forest and still had the appetite to demolish five berries.

Thank Arceus this forest had no shortage of food.

Because if it were something like a Larvitar…

Summer had no idea where he'd even find an entire mountain's worth of soil to feed it.

Jangmo-o sat back, content, reflecting on everything that had happened.

"So this is what fun feels like… I think living in Sunset Forest is going to be fun!"

Strong Pokémon. Good food. A perfect training ground. And a trainer who actually cares…

"Yeah. I'll definitely grow stronger here!"

"By the way, Jangmo-o," Summer asked.

"Where do you want to sleep at night?"

Ogerpon instantly pointed at itself.

"That's not even a question! The cabin, of course!"

Jangmo-o hesitated, then shook its head.

It glanced around, then back at Summer, before giving its answer.

Summer raised an eyebrow, then smiled.

"The entire Sunset Forest, huh?"

"So you want to train and sleep in different areas to build adaptability."

Jangmo-o nodded firmly.

That was exactly the plan.

Ogerpon drooped.

Its baby brother was officially in his rebellious phase.

Summer chuckled.

"That's fine. But if you ever need help, come back to the cabin."

"After all, that's where you were born. And we're the ones who witnessed it."

Jangmo-o's eyes softened.

It nodded solemnly.

"Got it, Summer. I won't forget."
