Chapter 1 - chapter 1: The Blood stone

Alaric Draven awoke to the soft rustling of leaves and the distant calls of unknown creatures. His head throbbed, and he struggled to remember how he had ended up here. Weak and disoriented, he pushed himself up, his hands sinking into the damp, cold earth. He glanced around, the dense forest encircling him, an impenetrable wall of shadows and whispers. Panic surged through him as he realized he was alone, abandoned by those he once called friends.

"Why... Why would they leave me here?" Alaric's voice trembled, barely more than a whisper. He remembered their cold expressions, their eyes filled with disdain. They had always considered him a burden, but he never thought they would go this far.

Alaric's frail body ached with every movement. His simple, tattered clothes offered little protection against the chill of the forest. His dull blond hair fell over his eyes, obscuring his vision. He brushed it aside with a trembling hand, revealing his soft blue eyes, now filled with fear and desperation.

He needed to find shelter, somewhere to hide from the dangers lurking in the shadows. The forest was alive with the sounds of beasts—mixtures of animals and elements, their roars echoing through the trees. Some were part plant, their bodies entwined with vines and thorns, while others seemed to be formed from the very earth itself, their skin a patchwork of rocks and soil.

As he stumbled through the underbrush, Alaric's mind raced with thoughts of survival. He had no powers, no means of defending himself. He was just an ordinary young man, alone in a hostile world. His only hope was to find some kind of weapon or tool to protect himself.

Suddenly, he tripped over something hard, falling face-first into the dirt. Spitting out a mouthful of earth, he turned to see what had caused his fall. There, half-buried in the ground, was a yellow amber stone, its surface smooth and glossy. Inside it, he saw a drop of blood, suspended like a ruby in honey.

Drawn to it, Alaric reached out and touched the stone. A surge of warmth spread through his fingers, traveling up his arm and into his chest. The warmth grew into a burning heat, and he gasped in pain. He tried to pull his hand away, but it was stuck, as if the stone was holding him in place.

In his mind, a voice echoed, soft but clear: "Do you seek power, Alaric Draven? Do you wish to survive?"

Alaric had a sudden goosebump due to the voice in his mind. He looked around to see if there was any monster behind him that was trying to get his mind under control, but he failed to see in the dark.

The voice resounded in his mind, and he was so afraid that he screamed, "Yes!" The pain intensified. "I want to live. I want to be strong, the strongest in the world."

The stone pulsed with light, and the blood inside it began to swirl, forming intricate patterns. The heat became unbearable, and Alaric cried out, but he couldn't look away. The patterns shifted and danced, drawing him in, until everything went black.

When he came to, the stone was gone, and he felt different. Stronger. His frail physique was no more. He still wore his tattered clothes, but underneath, he could feel the newfound strength coursing through his veins. His hair remained dull blond, and his eyes were still soft blue, but he knew something had changed.

"Trial period began," the voice echoed in his mind. Alaric was confused. He didn't know for how long this power would last.

Testing his newfound powers, he held out his hand and concentrated. A soft, golden light emanated from his palm, bathing the surrounding area in a warm glow. The light seemed to chase away the shadows, revealing the path ahead.

Encouraged, Alaric began to move forward, his steps more confident. He didn't know what the future held, but he was no longer the helpless boy who had been abandoned by his friends. He was something more.

As he made his way deeper into the forest, he heard a low growl behind him. Turning, he saw a beast emerge from the shadows. It was unlike anything he had ever seen—a monstrous creature, part wolf, part plant, its body covered in thick vines and thorny brambles. Its eyes glowed with a malevolent green light, and it snarled, baring sharp, leaf-like teeth.

Alaric's heart pounded in his chest. He knew he couldn't outrun this beast. He had to fight. Summoning the light again, he focused it into a beam, aiming it at the creature. The beast recoiled, but then lunged at him, its claws extended.

The battle was fierce. Alaric dodged and weaved, using his newfound agility to avoid the beast's attacks. He struck back with blasts of light, each one burning through the creature's plant-like hide. But the beast was relentless, its wounds healing almost as quickly as they were inflicted.

Desperation drove Alaric to tap deeper into the power of the amber stone. He felt a surge of energy, and his eyes began to glow with a warm, golden light. With a final, powerful blast, he struck the beast in its core, a glowing green orb nestled in its chest. The beast let out a deafening roar and collapsed, its body disintegrating into a pile of ash and leaves.

Breathing heavily, Alaric approached the remains and found the core, still glowing faintly. He picked it up, feeling its power. This was the key to his survival, he realized. These cores could be used to create powerful equipment, weapons that could help him face the dangers of this world.

As he pocketed the core, he heard more growls in the distance. The forest was full of these creatures, and they would be drawn to the sound of battle. He needed to move, to find a safe place to rest and plan his next move.

Alaric looked around, his eyes scanning the darkened forest. He was no longer the weak, helpless boy his friends had abandoned. He had power now, and he would use it to survive, to become stronger.

But as he set off deeper into the forest, a lingering question remained in his mind: What other dangers awaited him in this cursed place? And who—or what—had created the amber stone that had changed his life forever?

His journey had just begun, and the path ahead was fraught with peril. But Alaric was determined to overcome whatever obstacles lay in his way. He had to. For there was no turning back.

The shadows seemed to whisper his name as he disappeared into the depths of the forest, his destiny uncertain, his future a mystery. The only thing he knew for sure was that he would never be the same again.
