Chapter 60 - Keiko - 七

Maintaining the façade of calm and determination while inhabiting Grandmaster Li Tian's body was more challenging than any physical benchmark. Every action, every decision, had to reflect the type of strength and wisdom he sought.

Summoning the Emperor's Grand Army, I watched as spectral clones of myself leapt from the grand wall and descended upon the invaders below. Each duplicate moved with the precision and power of the techniques I had mastered, their strikes igniting the battlefield with fiery intensity. The mounted archers and foot soldiers stood no chance against the relentless onslaught. Within minutes, the horde was decimated, their bodies strewn across the horizon like fallen leaves. The sight of the defeated enemy filled me with a grim satisfaction, a testament to the power and unity of the sect.

As the dust settled and the battlefield grew silent, I raised my voice to address the disciples standing behind me.

"DISCIPLES!" I announced, my voice echoing across the vast expanse, "We have won today!"

"Turn left and turn right. Help the faces you see to one day be able to defend this wall alone." The young warriors looked at each other, their expressions a mix of relief and determination. "Rejoice in your brotherhood!"

The bonds formed in battle held strong among those who value camaraderie, and I knew that the unity and strength of the sect would only grow from this victory. Together, we would ensure the safety and prosperity of our empire.

Just as we began to celebrate our hard-fought victory, an ominous presence filled the air. The leader of the invaders, his eyes burning with unholy power, raised his arms and chanted in a guttural language. Dark energy swirled around the fallen bodies, and to our horror, the dead began to rise. Their eyes glowed with an unnatural light as they stood, ready to fight once more. The leader's twisted smile sent chills down my spine. This battle was far from over.

Drawing upon the vast reservoir of qi within Li Tian's body, I extended my senses and felt the dark energy animating the corpses. With a determined focus, I began to siphon the qi from the resurrected warriors. The process was arduous, each pull of energy met with resistance. But slowly, the dark light in their eyes faded, and the corpses collapsed once more. The leader's expression turned from triumph to disbelief as his army crumbled before him.

The ancient spirit of Li Tian, watching through my eyes, was astounded.

"These corpses... they possess qi?" he marveled. "How is this possible? Qi was never meant to animate the dead."

His voice carried a mix of curiosity and concern. It was a revelation that shook the very foundation of his understanding of the natural laws. This new knowledge opened up possibilities—and dangers—that we had never considered.

"It is common now," I responded, my voice heavy with the weight of modern knowledge. "In this era, techniques and abilities have evolved. Necromancy, though forbidden, has found its way into the arts of some rogue factions. The manipulation of qi to reanimate the dead is just one of the many dark paths that have emerged."

His ghastly visage twisted in revulsion at this revelation. He gagged several times, trying to cough out the knowledge of such twisted practices.

Determined to end the threat once and for all, I confronted the leader of the invaders. Our eyes locked, and without a word, we launched into battle. The clash of our techniques filled the air with explosive force. His dark energy met my pure qi, the two forces colliding with a ferocity that shook the ground beneath us. Each strike, each parry, was a test of our skill and resolve. The battle raged on, a clash of the power and determination from both sides.

The leader was relentless, his dark techniques a formidable challenge. But I called upon the full extent of my knowledge, countering his every move with the precision and grace of the ancient techniques. The Blazing Inferno's Unquenchable Wrath, the River Breaking Slash, and the Rooted Aegis flowed through me, each technique executed with flawless mastery. The battlefield became a blur of motion and energy, our battle a pit of qi blending together.

As the leader fell, defeated, I felt the spirit of Li Tian stir behind me.

"You have done well, Keiko," he said, his voice filled with pride. "But there is still much to learn. The knowledge we possess is vast, and there are many secrets yet to be uncovered. Let us continue this journey together, and you will gain the right to protect our legacy."

The strain of balancing my own thoughts and emotions with those of the Grandmaster was exhausting, and I couldn't help but wish for the tests to end soon. The ancient spirit's trials seemed endless, and each one pushed me further to the brink of my sanity.

The scene around me shifted once more, and I found myself in a quiet, dimly lit room. A woman lay on a bed, her breaths shallow and labored. Her once vibrant eyes were now dull with the shadow of death. I recognized her immediately—she was Li Tian's wife. The weight of her condition settled over me like a heavy shroud.

"Save her, and I'll grant you power," the spirit of Li Tian whispered, his voice filled with sorrow and desperation. "Her life is worth more than any technique or knowledge. Please, Keiko, you must save her."

The spirit's plea hung heavy in the air, but I remained resolute. "It won't matter, the past is already dead," I replied, my voice steady despite the turmoil within. "No amount of power can change what has already happened. We must accept the past and move forward."

"It matters enough, as you'll come to know," the spirit insisted, his voice tinged with a mixture of hope and despair. "There are lessons to be learned from the past, and power to be grazed from understanding and accepting it. Please, Keiko, help her."

Stepping closer, I examined the woman lying before me. Her body was frail, her life force dwindling. As I focused my senses, I realized that something was missing—her connection to the natural laws was severed. Someone had stolen her very essence, leaving her a shell of her former self. The realization hit me like a bolt of lightning.

"Someone has stolen her Laws," I said aloud, my voice filled with anger and disbelief. "This isn't a natural illness. Her connection to the truth has been severed. We must find who did this and restore her power."

Turning to the spirit of Li Tian, I confronted him with the truth. "Who did this to her?"

I firmly said, "Who stole her laws and left her to die?"

The spirit of Li Tian broke down, tears streaming down his ethereal face.

"It was my own doing," he confessed, his voice choked with sorrow. "In a lapse of control, I took her essence. This great technique envied by all.... it destroyed the one I loved most."

After a long silence, he spoke again, his voice heavy with regret. "This is the final test, Keiko. Not to save my wife, but to teach me how to pass on the techniques. All I have ever known is how to steal, not how to grant. I need you to show me how to give, how to heal."

"But you gave me the others," I protested, confusion and frustration mingling in my voice. "You have already donated to me so much."

"This is all a farce," he bitterly replied, his voice unsteady from sorrow. "What I gave you is a child's dream, not a man's legacy. Heal her. Teach me how to bestow the Laws that I have gathered."

The spirit's sobs filled the room, a haunting sound that echoed in my mind. The raw emotion distracted me, making it difficult to focus. I could feel his pain, his regret, and it was overwhelming.

"Stop crying and let me think!" I snapped, my voice cutting through his sobs. "If you want me to help, you need to give me a moment of time in silence."

The spirit nodded, his sobs quieting. He reached out to caress his dying wife's face, his touch tender and filled with longing. The sight of him, a once powerful and proud man now reduced to such vulnerability, stirred something deep within me.

"Time!" I energetically said, my voice softening. "I will heal her, but not here. There are secrets from the past that are kept in the room where you found me. I read a lot, but not all. There might be something there that can help us."

"Very well," Li Tian replied, his voice a mix of hope and resignation. "Let us cure my love."

I nodded, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. The illusions faded. We returned to the chamber where the ancient scrolls were kept. I knew that within these walls lay the key to saving Li Tian's wife.

Hours turned into days as we meticulously examined the scrolls, searching for a way to reverse the stealing.

Finally, I found a scroll that seemed promising. It detailed a ritual to restore the natural balance of one's qi and reconnect them to the elements. The process was difficult and required immense concentration, but it was our best hope.

Preparing for the ritual, I felt the weight of the task ahead. This was not just about saving Li Tian's wife; it was about proving that the power of the ancients could be used for healing as well as destruction. I gathered the necessary ingredients and arranged them in the precise pattern described in the scroll.

As I began the ritual, I channeled the techniques I had learned, drawing upon all of the techniques I learned. Cycling through each one, I oscillated the qi within me, following the natural rotation of the elements. Each movement, each breath, was a step towards achieving harmony. The room filled with a shimmering light as the energy flowed through me and into Li Tian's wife.

Sweat poured down my face, and my muscles ached from the strain; however, I pushed through, focusing on the task at hand. Slowly, I could feel a small portion of the Law leaving my body, flowing into the dying woman.

The spirit of Li Tian watched in awe as the ritual progressed. His wife's breathing became steadier, her color returning. The connection to the elements grew stronger, and I knew we were succeeding. Finally, with one last surge of energy, the ritual was complete. Li Tian's wife opened her eyes, her gaze filled with life once more.

Li Tian broke down in tears.

"Thank you, Keiko," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion.
