Chapter 50 - Gotham University?

Looking at the unidentified figure in front of him, although Thea was covered up tightly, Commissioner Gordon could still tell that she was a woman. Having lived for over sixty years, if he couldn't distinguish between men and women, then he might as well be blind.

The scene fell into a momentary silence, with only the sound of the thugs struggling to break free.

Thea had no intention of revealing herself or exchanging pleasantries. Commissioner Gordon, knowing her true identity, was not a concern, as his credibility was arguably the best. But the same couldn't be said for those few police officers; Gotham's police department was like a sieve, with too many people and too much chaos. So, it was best for her to maintain her mystery for now.

At this moment, Commissioner Gordon was also pondering when his jurisdiction had gained another female hero, when Selina's helicopter finally arrived.

Selina and Commissioner Gordon had known each other for many years. They exchanged information in hushed tones, and the police officers couldn't help but show expressions of relief at the sight of the seasoned veteran.

Gotham was now like Stalingrad, with constant gunfire and occasional intense explosions. The few of them were injured and disabled, with barely any bullets left. They had little confidence in traversing the city, but the arrival of the helicopter significantly increased their safety.

As the time the thugs spent in contact with the spider silk increased, they had already fallen unconscious. After all, it was a chemical product, and prolonged skin contact could damage the nervous system. If they wanted something green and completely natural, more research was needed. Thea and Felicity stood beside the spider silk, each wearing a pair of gloves to inspect their handiwork.

"The adhesion is pretty good."

"We can reduce the amount used next time, especially for single targets. This large amount is a bit wasteful."

As Thea examined the cross-section of the spider silk with special lenses, Commissioner Gordon and Selina approached at a leisurely pace.

Looking at the dense web, Commissioner Gordon thought it was a great invention! He had always been looking for ways to arrest criminals without breaking the law. Beating criminals to the point where they couldn't take care of themselves did not align with his philosophy. Every time Batman left a bloodied criminal at the police station's doorstep, it kept the cleaning and medical staff busy for half a day.

Now, this spider silk was quite good! Not only did it prevent bleeding, it didn't even leave a scratch. It was safe, fast, and even had a sedative effect. The officers could directly handcuff and take away the criminals in such situations.

It protected the officers without causing serious harm to the criminals. If it weren't for the timing being off, he would have asked Thea how much it cost per pound.

Pulling his thoughts back, he watched the two women busily chatting about things he couldn't understand, only to interrupt them with a "Thank you for your help in Gotham."

"Oh? You're welcome." It seemed Selina had already disclosed her identity to him. In truth, this question wasn't difficult to guess for someone observant. Just look at Felicity standing there without any pretense or disguise; it wouldn't be hard to figure out her identity by cross-referencing with associated individuals.

However, Thea didn't dwell on this question. Instead, she asked Commissioner Gordon, "Where to next?" She knew that, as the commissioner of a city of millions, he had the decisiveness she needed, which was why she sought him out in the first place.

"We have some officers currently at Gotham University. Follow me," Commissioner Gordon replied.

When it came to assigning specific teams, Commissioner Gordon hoped that Thea would also take two people with her because the helicopter couldn't accommodate so many people. Seeing the disheveled appearance of the officers, Thea, who had a slight obsession with cleanliness, feared she might accidentally push someone off the Glider due to her overreaction. Meanwhile, the officers felt uneasy watching her hover using the Glider.

After some consideration, they found a suitable arrangement: women on the Glider, men on the helicopter. To be honest, the quality of the few police officers was quite high; out of the four, three could pilot a helicopter. This made Thea wonder if she should also learn some modern driving techniques in the future.

Selina was confident in her balance, standing alone on one side, while Thea held Felicity's waist on the other. The three of them flew behind the helicopter at a slow pace.

No one mentioned the thugs stuck in the web. Thea and Felicity had a special solvent to release them, but with the city in chaos, there was nowhere to detain them. They could only leave them hanging for now. As for whether they could figure out a way to get down without the solvent, the two women had no idea.

Due to holding Felicity, Thea had to use her gun to deal with any enemies they encountered along the way. With the helicopter roaring overhead, there was no need to worry about being discreet.

Selina also demonstrated the limit of human agility. She stood steadily on the skateboard without relying on any equipment and occasionally threw out a handful of throwing knives when encountering enemies.

Finally, just before Felicity was about to almost pass out, everyone arrived at the so-called Gotham University.

This university truly embodied the Gotham style. The overall feeling was gloomy and dilapidated. There was a rundown iron fence at the entrance, and the main academic building had slightly brighter colors, as if the school authorities were trying to add more color to the university. However, the actual effect was minimal. The originally white walls had become dirty and stained from years of neglect.

On the side of the campus, there was a green belt. The trees, which should have brought a sense of life and sunshine, looked particularly eerie in this gloomy environment. As the breeze blew through, the rustling of the leaves sounded like the whispers of a banshees echoing through the woods.

Thea felt a bit uneasy. This place didn't even need any refurbishment to shoot a horror film. Lending it to the crew of "The Ring" would save so much budget. Burying a dead body here would turn into a zombie in minutes.

Even the usually talkative Felicity was scared by the eerie atmosphere, huddling closer to Thea like a quail.

The officers and Selina, however, seemed unaffected. Perhaps growing up in this environment had immunized them.

This university truly deserved its reputation. It had a professor who enjoyed scaring people from a young age and grew up to be even more enthusiastic about it. Later, someone gave this professor a nickname, calling him the Scarecrow, after the wise individual who made numerous people wet their pants by wearing a mask in Batman Begins.

There was also an outstanding student representative, excelling in both academics and athletics. A young girl who won gymnastics championships for the school and almost made it to the Olympics. After graduation, she devoted herself to cutting-edge research in psychology, becoming a role model for countless younger students. This girl was called Harley Quinn.

Of course, the school itself was innocent. Just because Voldemort graduated from Hogwarts doesn't mean the school is bad. The school is a place to acquire knowledge. Did the aforementioned two not acquire knowledge? If they did, it shows it has nothing to do with the school.

In the future, Batman even sent his own son to this school for further education, which shows that Bruce Wayne still recognized the teaching quality of this school.
