While swimming in the ocean, Rihito came across various schools of fish. One of the schools, in particular, resembled carp—a breed of fish found both in his previous world and the current one he was staying in.
"Wow, I never thought I would see carp here! Moreover, it looks like the one from my previous world." In his previous world, his mother often cooked fish, and the nostalgic taste of her cooking made his mouth water with longing. While in Japan, he tried to recreate the dish his mother used to make. Although he successfully replicated the flavour, he still felt something was missing from his version. Even after adding and subtracting spices, he couldn't quite capture the essence of his mother's cooking.
Shaking his thoughts away, Rihito excitedly grabbed one of the fish to inspect it more closely. After inspection, the only difference he found was that these carp were twice the size and could survive in the saltwater. The ones from his previous world were mainly found in places like rivers and freshwater lakes.
Confirming it was almost the same kind of fish, without a second thought, Rihito used
[Dinner secured]
Now that he had caught enough fish for dinner, Rihito decided to explore deeper and hunt something big.
Rihito propelled himself like a torpedo, reaching the seabed in just a few seconds due to his speed. He first noticed the stunning coral reef, large boulders, and small fish swimming around, creating a breathtaking scene.
"Man, Myu and the girls would love to see this; I should bring them next time." Rihito nodded to himself.
Rihito then used
But before that. Rihito paused. He looked towards the surface. [I need to get some air.]
Splash!!
He burst out of the sea with a single leap, floating just above the sea, taking heavy breaths.
"Hah, hah, hah… I think my current limit for holding my breath is 30 minutes. I need to push myself further, so let's explore a bit more. Catching my breath, I dove back in.
Splash!
During my search for a sea monster, I encountered many types of fish, both normal and bizarre in appearance. Most of them appeared poisonous and were inedible.
"Hmm…"
Just then, I sensed a disturbance. Deep within the sea, suddenly, strange vibrations were occurring, scaring all the fish away.
Curious about what was happening there, I headed toward the location. The closer I got, the darker the sea became as the intensity of the vibrations increased.
Using my
No, calling it a disturbance was too light of a statement; it was a clash, a clash of monsters.
I instantly used
"Now, this is a show."
I stopped keeping an appropriate distance and watched two giant monsters fighting.
On one side, one of them resembled a sea dragon or, should I say, a leviathan. It was about 25 meters in size with large-scale armour, sharp claws, a tail, and a mouth full of sharp teeth ready to shred anything in its path.
==leviathan==
On the other side was what I can only describe as a giant octopus about 30 meters long, reminiscent of the famous monster, the Kraken.
==Kraken==
"I never thought I would witness a real-life kaiju battle in person." Rihito amused.
…
The Leviathan glared from its cave at the Kraken that suddenly, out of nowhere, attacked at her most vulnerable time. She was about to give birth, and at a time like this, that bastard dared to attack her. If it were at any other time, she would tear the bastard to shreds. But because she was in a critical state, she was unable to fight or move. It was only because she was half in her cave that she was managing to fend off the attacks. However, as time passed, she was getting tired, and it wouldn't be long before she was overwhelmed.
"Grrrrraaaa", Leviathan growled, trying to intimidate the Kraken.
The Kraken looming over the sea dragon's cave looked down at the leviathan, snorting bubbles as its massive tentacles wriggled menacingly, blocking the way. Two glowing yellow eyes stared down from a giant octopus's head. Some of its tentacles attempt to reach the leviathan at certain intervals, trying to pull it in, only to have their tentacles slashed apart.
Kraken felt rage bubbling within him as his tentacles regenerated. For too long, he had waited for this day to eliminate the only obstacle in his path that prevented him from dominating the entire sea. Throughout his long life, two beings had caused him significant trouble. The first was Leviathan, the infamous sea dragon rumoured to be the ruler of the seas. The second was Devourer, a slimy, jelly-like monster born with the ability to consume everything in its path. These two had prevented the Kraken from being the sole ruler of the sea. However, about 500 years ago, when he awoke from his periodical deep slumber, he suddenly discovered that the devourer had inexplicably disappeared, never to be seen again.
The Kraken didn't know what happened while he was asleep, but whatever happened to the devourer, the Kraken was elated. He now had one less foe to deal with.
The leviathan.
The Kraken knew in a direct fight, he was weaker than the sea dragon, although it was slightly larger. It still couldn't fight the leviathan head-on, especially against its breath. So, Kraken waited for the perfect moment for his attack.
Over time, he observed that the leviathan was appearing less and less. One particular day, instead of attacking him, the leviathan attempted to flee. This behaviour revealed what he had been wondering: the leviathan was sick for some reason. He didn't know the cause, but he would be damned if he didn't take advantage of this opportunity.
Seeing a perfect opportunity, he attacked, taking full advantage of its helplessness. Today was the day he would become the ultimate ruler of the sea.
Kraken continues to attack the Leviathan, overwhelming her defences. The leviathan was becoming exhausted from fending off the attacks and would soon be unable to survive.
Just then, the leviathan pulled its body back inside the cave, trying to avoid the fight.
Kraken saw this and cautiously got closer, keeping an appropriate distance for retreat. It was so close to being the sole ruler of the sea at a critical moment like this it didn't want to fall into a trap unknowingly.
Finding an appropriate distance, the Kraken's tentacles grabbed a nearby rock and hurled it inside, trying to force the sea dragon out where it would have the advantage.
…
Rihito, sitting on top of Boulder, watched everything play out. The battle of endurance between the Kraken and the Leviathan was soon coming to an end.
The Kraken succeeded in tiring out the leviathan, successfully dragging it out, binding it from top to bottom, and slowly crushing its body with its monstrous grip while the sea dragon writhed, trying to get out of the bindings.
Rihito observed as the Leviathan gradually came to a stop, remaining still.
"Is the Leviathan sick or something?" Rihito wondered.
Rihito, from his position, could tell the Leviathan, for some reason, was unable to properly fight back, giving the Kraken the advantage.
[Why was it not using its breath?] As I thought that, I noticed the leviathan stopped moving.
The Kraken, seeing this, was elated and roared in joy and victory over its most hated foe.
Finally, his most hated enemy was dead, and all the humiliation he had faced until now was washed away. Now, no one in this sea could stop him.
Rihito watched all of this as his eyes, at some point, started to glow, "I see. So that's how it is…"
The supposed dead Leviathan suddenly opened its eyes forcefully, turned its head, and fired an azure-coloured beam towards the Kraken's head.
