Chapter 82 - 3) Catching Up

[Peter]

After evening classes I met up with Harry at the front of the school. When I reached there, he and Elaine were talking to each other before waving at me when they saw me arriving.

Elaine ran up and hugged me, to which I hugged her back, "Pete! I hear you're leaving me all on my own today," she asked, pulling out her puppy dog eyes.

"He's my man now, Elaine!" Harry replied with a little sass.

"Sorry, I'm taking Harry home with me today. It's a boys-only day out, I'm afraid," I replied while I walked towards Harry and wrapped my arm around him with a smile.

"Oh well, I tried," stated Elaine with a shrug. "Have fun with Harry, alright, and don't forget about me," she added before pecking my cheek.

"He's spent way more time with you than me lately! You greedy shit," blurted Harry.

Elaine playfully hit Harry with her bag. "The girlfriend always trumps the best friend, Harry, though I guess you wouldn't know anything about that, would you?" She mocked.

"The audacity!" Exclaimed Harry.

"Alright, guys, no need to fight over little old me." I interrupted.

"Have fun, Pete, I guess you too, Harry," replied Elaine.

"Oh, we will!" Exclaimed Harry.

I and Harry said goodbye to Elaine before we started to walk further into town. Along the way we discussed a lot; I forgot how nice it was to talk to Harry and how funny he was. I guess I never realised since I was always around him, unlike nowadays. I should do this more often; it makes me feel peaceful.

Since the Vulcans attack, I've been on edge and suffering from small panic attacks, though I haven't told anyone. I'm a superhero; no one cares about how I'm feeling. What matters is that I protect and care about everyone else. Maybe in a different universe I could have done stuff like this with 3D-Man.

"Hey, earth to Peter!" Yelled Harry, waving his hand in front of my eyes. "We're here," he added.

"Oh, sorry. I spaced out for a moment," I replied.

"I kind of guessed that; let's go find a table." Replied Harry, opening the door and holding it for me.

We both sat down near the window and ordered our respective drinks. Harry got a plain latte while I ordered a salted caramel frappé. I always preferred cold drinks, and I'm not exactly the biggest coffee enjoyer, so I almost always got a frappé of some kind.

The coffee shop was small but very cosy and clean. It had a few sets of chairs and tables alongside booths that ran across the sides and a radio on the counter singing away. Outside the window were people rushing down the street and the noisy row of cars with clearly agitated drivers.

"What's on your mind?" Asked Harry.

For a moment I wanted to tell him everything, like, Hey, I'm Spider-Man, but I couldn't drag him into this. I've already made a few enemies, and one is a mystery criminal organisation. At least I think so? I doubt Goliath were ecstatic with me throwing one of their assassins in jail; they silenced her in the end, so she must have meant something.Life would be so much easier if I told them; who knows, maybe I'm being overly cautious and they'll be fine. But Stark was able to trace my identity, so who's to say others can't? And if I get a supervillain of my own one day, what would they do with my friend and family if they found out who killed me?So many thoughts rushed and clogged my brain, and my breathing started to quicken and my hands shake.

"You ok?" Asked Harry worriedly. My brain went silent, and I returned to normal.

"Yeah, just dealing with a lot," I replied.

"I know it was hard losing Uncle Ben, but he wouldn't want you to be like this. I've heard from Elaine how you have these episodes of shaking and heavy breathing. You can talk to us, you know," reassured Harry.

"I..." I stammered. I wanted to tell him everything, but I couldn't bear it if I was at fault for him dying. Like Uncle Ben. Like 3D Man. "I know, but this is something I have to deal with alone; I hope you understand." I replied.

"OK, that's fine, but if you ever need someone, I'm here, alright?" Replied Harry.

"Though I would rather tell Elaine first," I joked.

"I can't win, can I?" Giggled Harry. "I'm never going to best her; at this rate I might need to start sabotaging this relationship," he added.

"Impossible. If you put as much time getting me back into a girl you liked, you'd already have a girlfriend," I said.

Harry laughed, "If I used my methods on anyone but you, the only thing I'd get is a letter telling me not to go within 500 metres," he joked before sipping his drink.

"True," I managed to say while I laughed like a hyena.

"But seriously, how did you two happen? You still haven't told me, and I'm dying to know at this point. You've made this the biggest secret in America; they probably have the answer locked up in the Pentagon under classified," asked Harry.

"Alright, I'll tell you; it's a short story anyway. So, remember that insane electric guy who started to attack our school?" I started.

"Yeah, I would be insane if I forgot about that. It took me hours to convince my dad to not send me with a bodyguard at all times. We don't talk often, but at least he does care somewhat," replied Harry.

"Yeah, well, when I snuck out into the hallway to get away, I saw him standing over these two girls. I couldn't tell who they were but I knew the guy was trying to kill them. So I just picked up a basketball and threw it at him, but he still tried to kill them, so bam, I threw a metal bottle right at his head," I continued.

"Holy shit, I don't know if I could have that. No wonder she likes you; hell, I'd turn gay for you that second," exclaimed Harry.

I smirked a little before finishing. "Yeah, well, after shitting myself, his attention was towards me and allowed the two girls to escape. Thankfully I managed to lose him. Elaine apparently saw it was me and asked to hang out; I may be dense, but not that dense. The rest is history, my friend," I finished and sat proud. Like a war hero telling his epic tale of victory.

"No wonder she's head over heels for you," said Harry.

"A group of armed robbers has taken the Goodford Bank hostage; at the moment, the number of perpetrators is unknown, but police are working hard to get the hostages out safely. Stay tuned for more news about the robbery as more details emerge," announced the radio.

I looked at my watch and made an 'Oh no, look at the time' face. "Harry, I'm sorry, but I promised I'd help with something for Aunt May in about 30 minutes." I said picking up my bag slowly.

"Yeah, no problem; it's a miracle you stayed this long." Replied Harry.

"Let's do this again in a few days; it was fun." I told him.

"I'd like that," replied Harry with a small smile before I rushed off through the door.

After all, I doubt the robbers were going to stay there all day.

"Sorry I almost forgot this," I said while rushing back into shop to grab my Frappé. After all i didn't want to waste it.
