Chapter 141: The Era Of Enlightenment
While the other villages were scheming and building their forces for the next war, Setsuna wanted to bring real benefits to the people, especially the civilians who made up the majority of the population in this world.
One thing about the shinobi world is that knowledge isn't spread widely. For example, you could find yourself in one part of a village that seems futuristic, while another backward village feels like it's stuck in the ancient past, without even a shred of technology.
Roran is the perfect example. They have tall towers, a nice shade protecting them from the desert sun, an excellent drainage system, and a good queen.
Meanwhile, Sunagakure is just a harsh village in the middle of the desert, struggling to survive. Setsuna wanted to change this by making knowledge accessible to everyone, following the example of his home country, the great America.
So, the first thing he did was to sell computers and connect them to Starlink. He opened CyberCafes or PC bangs in every part of the world, making it easier for people to access knowledge.
Since computers were exclusive technology from Uzushiogakure, many Kage and Daimyo eagerly bought them. Setsuna used deception, they believed they had managed to smuggle the goods illegally from Uzushiogakure, but it was all secretly planned by him.
Each computer was adorned with seals, making them appear more premium. The surprise when they turned on the computers was spectacular. Imagine someone who had never seen a plane suddenly riding one — that was the level of astonishment they experienced.
To add to the excitement, Setsuna had created Wikipedia and introduced two social media platforms. The first was a version of YouTube, but it resembled the Chinese version, where the government controlled the content, while the international version was monetization-based.
He also instructed his students to upload videos, teaching others about science. Alongside this, he uploaded videos on cooking recipes, human rights, and other important topics.
The second platform was Twitter, but with a special tab for news, allowing even people living in remote areas to access information faster.
His efforts bore fruit. The people were no longer narrow-minded. Some even began rejecting the authority of the nobles, though they kept it hidden out of fear of retaliation.
---Konoha---
Sarutobi Hiruzen is a good Kage, especially to his clan, but at the same time, he is a bad Kage to other clans and civilians.
Unlike Tobirama Senju, who willingly allowed the Senju members to integrate into Konoha and even remove their Senju surname, Hiruzen was unwilling to do the same.
He needed the support of the Sarutobi clan. Those born into the Sarutobi clan were fortunate—they were not sent to war and received easier missions compared to civilians and other clans.
Unknowingly, his actions led the Sarutobi clan to become a major force during the 4th Great Ninja War. This was because they had too many ninja, and the new Kage, Senju Tsunade, did not grant them the same leniency that Hiruzen did. As a result, they were sent to the battlefield, where 60% of them died.
If not for Danzo bearing the darkness of Konoha, these faults might have been discovered earlier. Instead, all blame was redirected to Danzo, keeping Hiruzen's position safe.
But that is for the future. In this timeline, Hiruzen is very different because he is being pressured by the other clans.
"Hiruzen, I need more people," said Danzo in one of the meeting.
After Hiruzen promised that Danzo could not force anyone, the major clans were not foolish enough to send their people to become Root members. As a result, Danzo's Root became smaller and weaker than in the original series.
"You can choose a few people from the Sarutobi, Utatane, and Mitokado clans," Hiruzen replied.
"Hiruzen, you need to ask me first before deciding anything to my clan," retorted Mitokado Homura.
"Yes, Hiruzen, you cannot simply offer my clan members to become Root," added Koharu.
Danzo remained silent, laughing inwardly.
"This is all for Konoha. Danzo, you may take two people from each of our clans," Hiruzen said.
"Hiruzen!" Both Koharu and Homura stood up, clearly against the decision.
"Ok, Danzo won't take anyone from your clan, but if the other clans try to abolish your Elder positions, don't blame me," Hiruzen defended himself. "The reason you hold power is because I gave it to you, and don't think the next Hokage will allow you to maintain that same power."
Koharu and Homura were stunned. They had grown accustomed to their positions of power.
Those who have never tasted power and wealth cannot understand why it is so addictive, or why some politicians would go so far as to hire hitmen or soldiers to maintain their power.
"Okay, Danzo, you can take two people," Homura finally said, and Koharu nodded in agreement.
---Uchiha Katori---
Katori had become more mature, especially after awakening her Mangekyō Sharingan. Her eyes were unique because they could see the aura emitted by a person if they tried to lie to her.
"Katori," said the guard who suddenly appeared in front of her. "The elders have invited you to tonight's clan meeting."
She wondered why the elders wanted her to attend but eventually agreed.
Later that night, she went to Uchiha Hall, where many Uchiha were present for the meeting.
There were certain requirements to join the meeting. Those with a one or two tomoe Sharingan could attend and listen to the proceedings, while those with a three tomoe Sharingan could voice their opinions. Those with the Mangekyō Sharingan held the highest authority.
Many Uchiha elders had the Mangekyō Sharingan, but they had become blind. They were still given seats of honor in the meeting, though their authority was equal to those with a three tomoe Sharingan.
"Katori," said one of the elders. "We've heard that you've awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan and also possess the Wood Release kekkei genkai."
Upon hearing this, Katori activated her Mangekyō Sharingan, wanting to see if the elders were trying to control her like Hiruzen or if they were lying.
