Amelia Clarke felt she had been stood up when she didn't receive the promised call.
Thinking it over, she climbed to the foot of the bed to grab her phone and dialed Owen Moreland's number, which was quickly answered.
"Where are you? Come up here," Amelia finished, and hung up before he could respond.
Today was their first day as newlyweds, and since there was no note on the bedside table and she hadn't gotten up yet, she figured Owen Moreland hadn't left the house.
Setting down her phone, she got out of bed and went into the bathroom to tie up her hair and take a shower.
The rush of the shower drowned out any noise from outside, but after turning off the water, everything was quiet. Amelia was about to call out to Owen to see if he was back in the bedroom when suddenly a phone vibration came from outside—its mechanical sound distinctly masculine.
Following that, Owen's deep voice penetrated the barrier, speaking in English.
