"I..." Evelyn Crawford's eyes dimmed slightly with emotional joy, "For you and Violeta, I am willing to do anything, but..."
"But what?" Jasper Bollock furrowed his brows.
"I could never be a mother Violeta would be proud of."
Evelyn looked up pleadingly at Jasper Bollock.
"Don't let your father know about my past, okay? If she finds out I was once an assassin spy, Violeta will have no status in the Bollock Family; they will regard her as a disgrace, and because of my identity, everyone will look down on her!"
Jasper Bollock paused, seeing for the first time in this assertive girl's eyes a deep sense of guilt and self-reproach.
"The pride I'm talking about isn't about your past," Jasper Bollock said, "but the future."
Jasper Bollock took a deep breath and continued, "Let the past be buried with the passage of time. But in the future, you must be a good person, and as long as you reform, you can still be Violeta's pride."
