Callsigns are a product by which people differentiate each other, which has been permeated by the secular world and thus created class distinctions.
Shen Yue addresses everyone in much the same way.
To return to the one, one must be formless.
The "Diamond Sutra" states — If a Bodhisattva holds onto the perception of self, perception of others, perception of living beings, and perception of longevity, he is not a Bodhisattva.
In essence, this means if you hold biases, then your practice is insufficient, not to mention being a Bodhisattva or an enlightened one.
Therefore, Shen Yue's attitude is much the same towards the Emperor as it is towards an ordinary person.
He neither ridicules the Emperor for his downfalls nor worships him for his exalted status.
Judging others' highs and lows serves only to show your own distinctions.
