Chapter 86 - Beginning the Hunt

Null was growing bored of waiting for Klein to finish talking to the Dryad.

Ultimately, he decided to be civil with her instead of killing her for the sake of the beast core.

What little he gained from the time spent learning about her experiences growing up till now left him satisfied.

She had also been kind enough— or uncaring for others aside from herself— to give up information on some other Beast Lords.

The Beast Lords were those that had claimed the lands for their own and most likely had beast cores.

They occupied a majority of the danger zones that were listed on the maps that were generated inside the Kingdom of Linomei.

With that in mind, they were dead set on finding a suitable beast core to study and get ready to finally leave Mamon.

From the given meibeasts there were a total of six others with the potential of having a beast core.

The most powerful of the meibeasts were separated into suitable habitats for their unique characteristics by which were as follows:

The Smoldering Lion of the Volcanic Peaks,

The Sonic Hawk of the Intrepid Skies,

The Giant Toad of the Murky Swamps,

The Everblue Fishman of the Clear Lakes,

The Glistening Tortoise of the Peaceful Plains,

The Shady Ghost Bat of the Dark Caverns,

and already revealed was the Earthen Dryad of the Nature Repose.

Klein could hardly wait to find a suitable specimen to take apart bit by bit to further his knowledge however possible.

Fortunately, he had Null by his side to overpower the meibeasts with ease so they could get the ordeal over with instead of having a makeshift training session with them all.

It was safe to say that Klein had undergone enough and became sufficiently strong enough over the time he had lived on Mamon.

He only had room to advance and grow beyond his current self.

Needless to say, Klein and Null spent the next moments of their time finding and confronting the Core Keepers— dubbed so by Null of course.

They first set out to catch the closest of the bunch, the Fishman.

Not much was revealed of the bunch aside from their general locations and what could be gleamed from their titles and environments.

From a nature based meibeast to a water based one, the two were found in an area full of large lakes with some sparse groups of significantly weaker beasts drinking and socializing peacefully.

There were many beasts that Klein and Null had not seen before, mainly a group of humanoid beasts with gills and webbed digits.

They came in different colors like blueish gray and dark brown, but they all looked relatively similar in size and build.

The Fishmen occupied a whole lake of their own; they were obviously one of the strongest beast groups in the area.

This made sense for them as they had a genetic backup in the form of an ancestral beast like the Everblue Fishman.

Klein wondered how they were going to get the attention of this ancestor of the Fishmen when Null ran forwards and went to business.

Keeping things simple he killed the fishmen and let their blood permeate throughout the once crystal-clear water.

The sudden onslaught had shocked the unaware fishmen as they bellowed in fear at the sight of their fellow kind being blown apart by a barrage of punches.

Once the screams were carried and the scent of blood spread through the air, it was only a matter of time before they awoke the ancestral beast.

"GRAUGHH!"

From beneath the still waters of the largest lake— coincidentally the one with not a single beast around it— a large figure appeared with a loud splash.

It's gaze quickly trained on the form of Null's bloody fists as he stepped away from the pile of corpses and the frantic few that survived the slaughter.

"Who dares to openly kill my kin in the boundaries of my domain! I will personally devour you piece by piece!"

Null sighed and turned to Klein nonchalantly, "You wanna have a go at it or do you want me to end it quick?"

Klein sighed as well, "Just finish it. We're already taking up more time than we have."

Null spared no effort to then face the giant Everblue Fishman in battle for but a brief moment in time.

To begin with, the fishman conjured a great wave of water to push him back for him to prepare water spears and jets of pressurized water.

While the attacks worked to force him back for a time, he circulated the spirit energy within himself to straight up blast through any attempts to delay his charge.

After making his way through the many watery attacks, Null jumped directly in front of the face of the Everblue Fishman and tried punching his head off.

The straightforward attack failed when the fishman blew a large bubble that entrapped Null in its form fist first.

Dealing with the soft bubble was simple though as he blew wind inside it till it popped.

Before the fishman could attempt anything else, he manipulated a giant boulder on top of his head for him to deal with while he waited behind to finish the job.

As the Everblue Fishman took the time to spray more jets of water to destroy the boulder, Null's small figured appeared behind it and he punched with all his might.

Squelch!

A gory mass of what was previously the fishman's head exploded and dyed the area red.

The massive body of the Everblue Fishman fell into the lake where it would lie indefinitely.

"Hurry up and check for the beast core! We've got a lot more to get done with after this!"

Setting his sights on the fishman corpse, Klein switched his vision to see the mofei and discovered a fist sized core residing within.

When he dug it out and held it in his hand, he sensed the vast amount of mofei within its structure that effortlessly absorbed the ambient mofei.

'It's like a piece of Meirite!'

Klein was taken aback as he noticed the similarities between the mineral and the item in his hand.

He tried sending some mofei in it through his own core that traveled through his mei veins and into it and it only absorbed the water mofei from his test.

'It figures the beast cores of those that are aligned with only one or two types of mofei are able to siphon that specific mofei to suit their needs.'

It seemed that their time would not be wasted during the rest of the hunting that was soon to come.
