Without missing a beat, his smirked, unshaken, as if my shield was merely a new puzzle for him to toy with. His long fingers trailed along its invisible surface, the motion slow and deliberate, like a predator testing the limits of its cage.
He pressed harder, a subtle increase in force, as though curious to see if he could crack the barrier.
kayla cocked her head to the side, her lips curling into a faint, unimpressed smile. Crossing her arms over her chest, she leaned back slightly, as if settling in to enjoy the show. Now it was her time to toy with him.
To enter the academy a person must know all the basic spells and fortunately for Kayla, she had Charles who had taught her advanced magic after she was able to learn all the basics of magic faster than she or Charles had anticipated.
A sigh of release almost escaped her when it held even as he increased pressure. She wasn't sure how strong her magic was and how long she can keep up but she wasn't about to let him see the uncertainty.
"You should try harder," Kayla said, letting a slow, deliberate smirk curl my lips.
For the first time, a flicker of surprise crossed his sharp features. It was fleeting, gone almost as quickly as it appeared, replaced by something far more dangerous, excitement. His eyes gleamed with a predatory spark, and she could feel the shift in his demeanor, the way his posture straightened, his interest sharpening like a blade.
He pressed harder against the shield, his fingers curling as though he intended to claw through it. The magical barrier shimmered in response but remained steadfast. He tilted his head, a low chuckle escaping him, the sound rich with both frustration and delight.
"Impressive," he murmured, his voice almost reverent as his hand hovered over the shield tracing its edges. "Now I'm even more curious..." His dark eyes locked onto hers, burning with an intensity that felt almost tangible. "How you would taste."
There was no mistaking the hunger in his tone, the way his words dripped with unrestrained desire. He was practically salivating, as if the shield, her defiance, and the sheer challenge she presented only heightened his obsession.
kayla stood her ground, her smirk never faltering. "I guess you'll never know," she said, her voice calm but laced with steel.
"Who are you?" he asked, his voice tinged with a fascination that bordered on unsettling. His eyes searched her, as if trying to decipher the puzzle she presented.
"Someone who doesn't concern you," she replied smoothly, her smile carefully controlled, masking the irritation bubbling beneath the surface.
His grin widened, an amused glint in his eyes. "Do you know who I am?"
she tilted my head slightly, feigning indifference. "Someone who doesn't concern me." But her curiosity piqued, who is he?
He laughed then, a rich, musical sound that burst from him like he truly found my words entertaining. It was disarming in a way, that laugh, but also deeply unsettling.
"Darling," he said, his voice lowering to a near whisper, his dark eyes gleaming with a predatory edge, "I'm everyone's concern." He leaned forward, his movements slow, deliberate, as if savoring her reaction—or lack thereof.
Without a second thought, she lifted her hand and shoved him squarely in the chest. The force was enough to send him teetering over the edge, the sheer audacity of his actions fueling my strength.
His laughter burst out again, louder this time, echoing in the stillness of the evening. She watched as he fell gracefully, his body twisting midair before landing perfectly in the snow below, as if he'd simply stepped off the roof rather than been pushed.
He dusted off the snow with an almost theatrical flourish, looking up at her with a wide grin. "Feisty," he called, his voice carrying easily to where I stood. "I like that."
kayla crossed her arms, looking down at him with a mixture of annoyance. "Next time, I won't be so kind."
He tilted his head back and laughed again, the sound almost gleeful, like she'd just made his day. "Oh, I'm counting on it," he replied, before disappearing into the shadows as if he'd never been there at all.
Some of the students walking through the courtyard stopped in their tracks, their eyes wide as they took in the spectacle we had created. Murmurs rippled through the small crowd, their hushed voices carrying on the crisp evening air.
Kayla could feel their stares, a mixture of curiosity, confusion, some just enjoying the drama.
"Well," she muttered under her breath, "today was eventful."
