Chapter 6 - 006

Once they had arrived home, Kayla was gently ushered to her room by her parents. The maids, who had been eagerly awaiting the good news of her impending marriage, now wore expressions of sadness as they saw her in tears.

Without uttering a word, they began the process of removing the carefully applied makeup and intricate jewelry that had taken them hours to arrange. It was a solemn and almost ritualistic transformation as they undid the preparations that had been made for the party.

Then, they led her to the bathroom, where a luxurious bath had been drawn. The hot water was infused with the soothing scent of lavender, creating an ambiance of tranquility. Kayla lost track of time as she soaked in the fragrant water, feeling the warmth seep into her bones.

Alone in the quiet of the bathroom, away from the watchful eyes of her parents, she finally allowed herself to cry. The tears flowed freely, carrying with them the weight of her broken dreams and the uncertainty of her future. She didn't want to burden her parents any further with her pain, and so she let it all out, finding solace in the privacy of her own sorrow.

As the fragrant lavender-scented water enveloped her, Kayla let herself dissolve into the soothing embrace of the bath. The steam from the hot water seemed to carry away some of the tension that had built up within her.

The room was a sanctuary of solitude, and the muted sounds of the world outside faded into the background. She leaned back, closing her eyes, and allowed the water to wash away not only the makeup and jewelry but also the facade she had worn at the party. Her tears mingled with the bathwater, a silent release of the emotions she had kept bottled up.

The maids, who had been busily attending to her, left her alone, sensing her need for a moment of respite. Kayla didn't know how long she spent in that peaceful solitude. It could have been minutes or hours; time seemed to have lost its relevance.

She thought about the path she had been on, the future that had been planned for her, and the past that had brought her to this moment. The weight of expectations, societal pressures, and the haunting memories of betrayal bore down on her.

Yet, as she lay in the fragrant water, she also sensed a glimmer of something new—an opportunity for a different future, one of her own choosing. The thought brought both fear and a spark of hope.

Eventually, when her heart felt a bit lighter, and the warmth of the bath had penetrated her very soul, Kayla reluctantly emerged from the water. She wrapped herself in a fluffy towel, taking a deep breath as the lavender scent clung to her skin.

She was determined not to burden her parents any further with her turmoil. They had been through enough. With renewed strength, Kayla resolved to face the uncertain path that lay ahead, to find her own way, and to take charge of her destiny.
