Chapter 142 - Chapter 136: Perron Family's Request...

Klaus Farmhouse...

On the other end at the Klaus farmhouse where Jojo and others were staying, they were watching a horror movie in the living room.

The dim glow of the television flickered across the living room of the farmhouse, casting eerie shadows on the walls.

The atmosphere was thick with tension—

not from real ghosts, but from the horror movie playing on the screen.

Despite the late hour, Jojo, Freya, Leah, two sisters ghosts and Gerald had decided to pass the time with a good old-fashioned scare fest.

Leah sat cross-legged on the couch, casually munching on popcorn, her eyes half-lidded with boredom.

"This ghost is so predictable,"

she muttered as the film's protagonist walked straight into a dark hallway.

"Why do they always go toward the creepy noise?"

Freya, lounging beside her with her arms crossed, smirked.

"Because if they used their brains, there wouldn't be a movie."

Jojo sprawled on the armchair with one leg draped over the side, sipped his tea nonchalantly.

"Honestly, if this ghost tried to mess with me, I'd just punch it in the face."

Gerald, who had been watching in mild amusement, chuckled.

Chuckle~

"Ghosts don't have faces to punch."

Jojo smirked.

Smirk~

"Not for me."

As if on cue, a sudden knock at the door shattered the moment.

Knock~ Knock~

Everyone froze.

"____"

"____"

"____"

Leah, mid-bite, slowly lowered her popcorn.

Gerald's eyebrows furrowed as he turned toward the door.

"...Did anyone invite a ghost over?"

Freya quipped, though there was a slight edge to her voice.

Jojo leaned forward, setting his tea down.

"If we didn't, then someone sure wants to make an entrance."

Knock~ Knock~

The knock came again—

firm, urgent.

Gerald got up, and approached the door.

When he opened it,

Roger Perron stood there, his expression tense.

Carolyn was beside him, her face pale, fingers clenched around her coat.

"Mr. Jojo,"

Roger started seeing Jojo behind Gerald, his voice strained,

"I'm sorry to bother you this late, but… could we have a chat?"

Jojo, who had been leaning back lazily in his chair, sat up slightly, his sharp eyes scanning their faces.

The Perrons looked shaken—

unnerved in a way that wasn't just from fatigue.

Something had clearly unsettled them.

"Well,"

Jojo said, setting down his tea with a small smirk.

"Didn't expect visitors this late, but sure. Come in."

Gerald stepped aside, letting the Perrons inside.

As they walked in, Leah and Freya exchanged looks—

both of them sensing the shift in energy.

Carolyn's hands trembled slightly as she stepped forward, her lips parted as if she wanted to speak but couldn't find the right words.

Jojo leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.

"So, Roger, Carolyn... what happened?"

Roger hesitated, running a hand through his hair before exhaling heavily.

"I know this might sound crazy,"

he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.

"But there's something wrong with our house."

"____"

"____"

A silence fell over the room.

Freya tilted her head, intrigued. Leah, who had been playing on her phone, finally put it down, giving Roger her full attention.

Jojo raised an eyebrow.

"Go on."

Flashback...

Once again Christine started to feel someone looking at her when she saw the dark shadow behind the door she saw the same shadow of something looking at her with a predatory gaze.

But this time when she woke up Nancy told her this.

Nancy not believing her went near the door exactly standing before the shadow like she couldn't see it.

SLAM!

Christine's closet doors shut on their own with a force that rattled the room.

For a brief second, everything was still.

Then—

"AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

Christine's blood-curdling scream tore through the night.

The piercing sound jolted the entire household awake.

Footsteps pounded against the wooden floor as Roger and Carolyn rushed toward their daughters' room.

The other girls groggily stumbled out of their rooms, fear gripping their chests as they followed.

Roger threw open the bedroom door.

Christine sat on the bed, her knees pulled to her chest, her entire body trembling.

Her face was pale, drenched in sweat, and her wide, terror-filled eyes refused to look away from the closet.

"Christine?!"

Carolyn rushed to her side, wrapping an arm around her.

"Sweetheart, what happened?"

Christine pointed at the closet with a shaky hand.

"T-T-There was someone standing behind the door!"

she stammered, her voice breaking.

Roger immediately turned toward the closet, his heart pounding in his chest.

The doors were shut, but an uneasy presence still clung to the air.

"Someone was inside the closet?"

Roger asked, already stepping forward.

Christine swallowed hard, nodding furiously.

"I saw it! It—It was staring at me! And then the door just slammed shut!"

The sisters clung to each other, their fear spreading like wildfire.

Roger grabbed the closet handles and, with a deep breath, yanked them open.

Nothing.

"____"

"____"

The closet was empty—

just rows of hanging clothes swaying ever so slightly, as if something had just moved.

A deep, eerie silence settled over the room.

Roger exhaled, running a hand down his face.

"It's just your imagination, honey,"

he muttered, more to himself than to Christine.

"You probably had a nightmare."

"No! No, it was real!"

Christine insisted, her eyes filling with tears.

"I could hear it breathing!"

Roger and Carolyn exchanged uneasy glances.

Carolyn turned toward her daughter, gently rubbing her back.

"It's okay, sweetheart,"

she whispered.

"You're safe now."

Flashback end...

Now Carolyn sat stiffly in her chair, hands gripping her coat as she looked at Jojo and the others.

Roger had his arm around her shoulders, his face lined with worry.

The dim light in the farmhouse kitchen barely eased the tension in the air.

Taking a shaky breath, Carolyn began to recount what had happened the previous night to her.

"It started with a song."

She shivered.

"I heard it—soft, eerie, like a lullaby coming from somewhere in the house. At first, I thought one of the girls had left a music box on, so I went to check."

Her voice trembled.

"But when I peeked into their rooms… they were all asleep."

A heavy silence settled in the room.

"That's when the glass shattered."

Roger clenched his fists at the memory where he saw how scared his wife was when he opened the door.

Carolyn continued, her eyes distant.

"I heard a loud crash—like something had been thrown. When I ran toward the staircase, I saw our family pictures dropping off the walls—one after another, as if someone was pushing them."

She swallowed.

Gulp~

"They weren't just falling; they were breaking apart before they hit the ground."

Carolyn took a shaky breath.

"I wanted to wake Roger, but before I could even turn around, I—"

She hesitated, fingers tightening.

"I felt something pull me back."

Freya's eyes narrowed slightly, and Leah sat up straighter, clearly more invested now.

"The basement door flew open behind me,"

Carolyn continued, her voice hoarse.

"It was like an invisible force yanked me in. The moment I stumbled inside, the door slammed shut behind me."

Jojo tapped his fingers on the table, listening intently.

"And let me guess—things got worse from there."

Carolyn nodded, her lips pressed into a thin line.

"It was pitch black. I could barely see anything, but I felt something—something watching me. And then…"

Her breath hitched.

"The lightbulb exploded."

Roger's grip on her shoulder tightened.

"I was outside,"

he said grimly.

"I heard a scream and came running in."

"But at the same time,"

Carolyn continued, voice quieter now,

"Andrea and Cindy were screaming upstairs."

Roger's jaw clenched.

"I didn't know where to go first. I just heard Carolyn's screams coming from the basement, so I forced the door open and pulled her out."

Carolyn exhaled, rubbing her arms.

"Then we ran upstairs. When we got to Andrea's room…"

She trailed off, her face pale.

Roger's expression darkened.

"We saw Andrea thrashing on the floor—screaming, clawing at the air like she was fighting something off."

Carolyn's voice wavered.

"She kept saying something was on top of her."

A heavy silence filled the room.

Jojo leaned back, tilting his head.

"So let me get this straight. Family pictures breaking, basement horror show, and an invisible attacker going for your daughter?"

He clicked his tongue.

"Yeah, sounds like your house is officially haunted."

Roger let out a long breath, looking at Jojo desperately.

"That's why we're here."

Carolyn met his gaze.

"We don't know what to do anymore."

Jojo leaned back slightly, taking a deep breath as he pieced everything together.

This was The Conjuring—the infamous horrer movie from his past life's memories.

He had already encountered multiple supernatural incidents from horror movies manifesting in this world.

As he processed the information, Roger's voice pulled him back to the present.

"Jojo, I know this is sudden, but… can we stay here just for tonight?"

Roger asked, his expression heavy with concern.

"Carolyn has decided to attend a college seminar tomorrow, where a woman named Lorraine Warren will be speaking. We think she might be able to help us."

Jojo met Roger's anxious gaze before shifting his eyes toward Carolyn and the girls, who looked visibly shaken.

If this was truly The Conjuring story playing out, then things were only going to get worse from here.

Still, he remained composed.

"Alright,"

Jojo said, nodding.

"You can stay here for the night."

A sigh of relief passed through Roger as he thanked him sincerely.

Carolyn, though still visibly distressed, managed a small, appreciative smile.

Freya exchanged glances with Leah and Gerald, silently acknowledging that something major was happening.

Though Jojo hadn't shared his thoughts yet, they could tell he had already figured something out.

Jojo took a final sip of his tea, placing the cup down.

"Let's just get through the night first,"

he murmured.

Because he knew—the real horror had only just begun.
