CHAPTER 85: THE HIGGINS HOME II
Diana emerged from the car, leaning on James for support. Her breath hitched as she took in the sprawling estate.
It wasn't just any house; it was a grand, three-story mansion with high-quality fixtures covering at least 5,000 to 9,000 square feet. The color schemes on the walls contrasted stunningly against the grand master piece of red brickwork. Various modern timber panels were installed vertically to create multiple effects, adding a touch of natural and timeless beauty.
Stones enhanced the trims and columns alongside neutral colors for a simple yet modern appearance. The landscaping was a mix of plants, grass, pebbles, rocks, and tiles, enhancing its outdoor features and creating a picture of timeless elegance.
James stood silently by her side, watching the awe on her face as she took in the surroundings.
A silent awe filled Diana's face. "Wow," she breathed, squeezing James' hand. "This is… incredible. I have to give your father that"
James, a hint of amusement in his eyes, held her hand and led her toward the entrance, with Antonio carrying the gifts behind them.
A man, strikingly similar to Nicodemus but taller, stood by the door.
"Welcome back home, young sir and madam," the man boomed. I'll inform the elders of your arrival. Please, come in and make yourselves comfortable" the man said as he led them inside.
If Diana thought the outside was beautiful, the inside was even more spectacular. Inside, the opulence intensified.
The interior architecture featured a backdrop wall of onyx and brass framed in classic arches, creating an interesting focal point. The designer opted for a subtle color theme, primarily a white-washed palette, to highlight and emphasize the harmony between proportion and balance, volume, and symmetry.
Shades of natural hues, such as gray and beige, were added to the furnishings and finishes, with touches of crystals achieving a luxurious interior design ideal for grand estates. Floor-to-ceiling windows and huge chandeliers hung from the ceiling, and the furniture was luxurious and soft, as Diana noticed when they sat down.
She figured the mansion had up to ten bedrooms, considering the extensive staircase, including the master bedroom and other additional rooms designed for entertainment, luxury, and relaxation. It boasted a grand yet refined design with high ceilings, elaborate crown moldings, and majestic stone pillars of classical Ionic order. Lofty windows infused an aristocratic and timeless French feel into the interior.
The combination of size, opulent features, high-end finishes, and several floors was impressive. Diana figured the mansion must have been designed and custom-made by a team of highly skilled architects, considering its development, design, aesthetics, and amenities both indoors and outdoors.
Holland Gardens suddenly felt small compared to the grandeur of this place. It looked like a palace ruled by an evil king, she thought as James held her hand and squeezed it.
She didn't know if he was reassuring her or himself about seeing his father again after over a decade. Nevertheless, she squeezed his hand back to reassure him that she was with him and would stay by his side no matter what.
James looked at her and smiled.
Diana whispered in his ear, trying to lighten the mood, "Quick question: whose surname do I bear?" she asked, grinning.
"My mom's," James replied, smiling back at her.
