Allen let that hang for a second before nodding once. "So that's what this is really about."
Mr. Bell didn't answer.
"You're worried about your wife," Allen said for him.
"Yes," Mr. Bell muttered. "She's… good. I mean, she's too good. Traditional, old-school values. Family-oriented. She stayed with me through everything. And I do love her."
Allen narrowed his eyes. "You forgot to mention something, though."
Bell looked up.
"She also comes from a family with influence," Allen said coolly. "Old money. High society. The kind that doesn't tolerate scandal."
