"Why?" Anna frowned, seemingly unsatisfied with the response.
Charles looked at the empty bowl on the table before him and spoke slowly, "For these nine years, every moment, I have complained to myself, why it had to be me, why not someone else? I risked my life sailing the seas, frantically searching for the Land of Light. Sometimes, I didn't know whether I was looking for a way home or committing suicide."
A hint of sadness flashed in Anna's eyes as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned softly against Charles.
"Now, I suddenly understand that there are not so many whys in the world. Whoever it falls upon, it's their destiny."
With slender fingers, Anna fiddled with Charles's fingernails and said in a low voice, "If you've come to terms with it all, then why continue? Wouldn't it be nice to settle down in Earth Sea with me? It took me a lot of resolution, you know."
Charles chuckled softly. "Even if I've made peace, I'm still not content…"
