Few more months flew by and Magnus became much stronger. His ranking was already in the hundreds and the campus has been quite peaceful so far.
The difference in resources and occasional missions Gobo sent him through tempered him through and through. In those months, he completed 3 missions that sent him to another world.
In the first mission, he had to get familiar with the foreign language, customs and he had to become a real knight. His identity was that of a talented aspiring swordsman from the slums.
The world was unique in its dragon infestation, as humans had to join other races to withstand the rampage of dragons. In this world, dragons were not restricted by their low amounts and had virtually no weaknesses.
It wasn't uncommon to see thousands of dragons fight. This wasn't his target, though. To become a knight wasn't easy.
First, he had to get recognised by a noble household before he had to complete various assignments which would test his willpower, strength and potential.
The final rite of passage was the killing of a dragon 1v1. Of course it wasn't some kind of super ancient one, but even the youngest are tough to deal with.
His life was quite eventful in this one as he became the knight of a young lady. To his surprise, it was like he was a pseudo important side character in a romance novel.
One day when he was fending off some threats whilst travelling. His lady had gotten ambushed by a forest dragon whose speciality was stealth.
It was at that moment where a person appeared. Although bloodied and out of steam, he valiantly fought against the dragon and bought enough time for Magnus to finish the fight on his side.
To affirm his suspicion, the man later woke up and told them about his identity. He was the crown prince of one of the elven empires.
And to make it a tad bit spicier, there has been a conspiracy that forced him out of his own empire to get powerful in order to gain revenge.
His lady was the daughter of a powerful count and was soon to be enrolled in the greatest academy in the human empire.
There, his life turned into a hassle as she was encircled by the human crown prince, young duke and the elven crown prince.
After the elven crown prince left to fight for the throne, not before he vowed eternal loyalty to her. The fight between the young duke and the crown prince intensified to the maximum.
Things progressed in the bad direction where only one winner would end, and with the dragons looming by. Magnus decided to muddy his hands.
Until now, he didn't even touch his young lady and stood at least 3 meters away from her at all times. At his level of power, 3 meters amounted to nothing more than a few millimeters.
Safe to say he handled it poorly and in the end, his lady fell in love with him after he saved her from a horde of dragons somehow invading the academy.
Moments later, the elven, now emperor, arrived to save the day. Although everything past the point where he became a knight was just a bonus point.
Getting accused of many heinous crimes and treason against humanity before being impaled by those three psychos wasn't nice.
To his delight, the love the young lady had for him was enough for her to hate the three forever, which brought at least some closure to him.
The second one was much more boring, and the excitement peaked only at the final moments of his life there. He was turned into a disciple of a new and rising sect.
Albeit a bit misplaced with the power system he had. It was a superior one, after all, and soon he fit in with none the wiser.
From the outer to the core disciple, he soon turned into an elder and held down the fort. He watched as a disciple with weak talent rose through the ranks before he was framed by a fellow elder.
To his dismay, he didn't have nearly enough connections and couldn't stop the mayhem that was about to descend.
Not even a 5 years later. An unreasonably handsome demon appeared and began his counterattack against the sect. With Magnus' knowledge, the fate of the sect didn't end in the total destruction.
Dozens of core disciples survived, with almost the entire inheritance intact. The sect master looked thankfully at him as he held back the demon.
The mission ended when the demon ascended to a higher plane and no longer held any connections to the lower plane he was in.
Magnus made sure that the sect would flourish once again, as it was his mission before he left. The rating he got was pretty good, but the amount of young masters he had to deal with almost gave him trauma.
The third mission was much more mundane in its nature. He became a caretaker of the elderly that were abandoned by their young and were visited on rare occasions.
The world itself was mortal in nature and he had to take care of 100 people before they peacefully left the planet.
At the beginning, he thought that he wouldn't gain much, and that this was a waste of time. But when he interacted with the old and listened to their stories.
His entire self relaxed. At least before he left this mission, he could relax. Perhaps it was the first time he let go of his ambitions for a moment to think about what he was.
He cried when the first few died, but at the end of his mission, he smiled as he sent them on their journey. Their smiles at the last moments were a precious thing.
To him, the value of these smiles proved much more and its value exceeded a few million chrono points. Good things didn't last forever, though.
But they could last a bit longer...
His merging of names became much smoother and soon his name wasn't an absolute bin of random words mashed together.
[Elemental Class Myriad Concept Semi Time Human]
While the word myriad was vast, it still couldn't hold the candle to the infinite concept. It was fine though as the myriad concept could still absorb and turn into a level higher concept.
The moment his name turned into a 7 letter one. The quality contained in his name catapulted him into the 14th place.
From here, it became much tougher, though. If he was willing, he could graduate at any time and join a large force.
But to get into the inner academy, he still had quite the distance to travel. The good news of his breakthrough didn't last long, as Monique called in for a talk.
It wasn't too uncommon, as Monique sometimes dragged him out for what she called was a date. But this time there wasn't her usual carefree smile.
"I am about to enter the inner academy." She said and waited for the reaction. Magnus sighed, which made her frown, but his words were enough.
"Alright, I wondered when you would leave to make a big hole in the inner academy. If you don't work hard, I'll catch up and then it will be me who will have to teach you. I won't forget about the hassle your departure will bring to the faction, though." He said with a smug grin.
"Don't worry, I'll reward you plenty when you enter the inner academy~." She said teasingly as they bantered back and forth for a while.
A week later, her departure was a huge surprise, and she approached the record time to enter the inner academy.
Although there was some reach from the inner academy to the outer. It was severely limited and, as such, the position of the first faction began to shake.
For the first time since it all began, the giant didn't seem so big anymore. This didn't mean that they were pushovers.
Far from that, as Magnus' ranking combined with the Historian and Richard were enough barely to hold the first position in place.
Not to mention other rankers that were in their faction. At this point, unless the enemy offered a position equal to one of the highest positions in their faction, it was a useless to try to bribe someone.
In addition, he became friends with the Historian. It happened when Magnus began talking about random novels and the concept of races Historian never heard about.
Richard, on the other hand, was still an acquaintance at best. His hobbies were questionable and sometimes he felt a dangerous aura around his future self.
Much to his relief though, Lemon was later forced to seal his future self as it reached a very high level. The oddball of the academy was probably capable of winning against the infinity ranker.
It showed what time could accomplish given enough time, but the downsides were clear as well. Were his future die in the present? It would mean that he has no future and thus no path of improvement.
When Lemon sealed his future self, there were just two Richards walking on the campus. With the season of tournaments and fights to get rid of some tension in the academy.
The tenth ranked Commander Seven Sins Sloth Demon challenged him to a fight. To Monique's annoyance, it was scheduled for the day after her departure.
Albeit unable to help much, as she couldn't interfere too much. She did cause some havoc and caused quite a bit of pain for the transcendent faction before she left.
They and the Bone Legion had their eyes for the top 1 position for a long time. Still, no one knew how the rankings were decided, but the length of a name was quite an accurate indicator of one's power.
Of course, the gap between a Mopping Master Human and Magical Elemental Golden Fire Human was large, and the winner would easily be the latter.
But in the academy made out of the greatest talents, this variable could be thrown out of the window. To cross more than two name gaps would be impossible, even for the infinite concept.
Which was recognised as one of the most powerful ones in existence and their growth rate was ridiculous.
Magnus wasn't deterred, though, and he knew that he had to fight this one and at least come to a draw.
It would be a first real test in this academy that would decide whenever the faction would keep its number one position or not.
The tension in the academy was at all times high and the bubble was ready to burst at any time...
