"Two shadows. Two suns. And me, stuck between them like a bug in an hourglass."Zilon sighed.
Zilon turned and walked back to the water clocks under the shade of the tree.
" Oh...so your now empty "
Zilon held his chin as he arrived and stared at the bigger jar which now had one empty bottle on top and the water below it seems to contain water.
" I can't believe I managed to make this work pretty well on my first try too, I mean we have done this experiment in class before but ..."
"*Sigh* based on this I can say that the bigger jar follows the 12hours mark and the smaller jar, officially follows the 1 hour mark " Zilon said.
Zilon looked back and saw the two suns, though from his position he can't see the stick's shadows.
" 12 hours for afternoon, maybe the time is similar to earth's?....." Zilon shook his head, his inner thoughts were saying otherwise.
" Well no matter, I will get to the buttom of it in the end "
Zilon knelt down on one knee and gently flipped the bigger jar, successfully resetting the timer for the water clock.
Then he flipped the smaller jar too, the water began dripping into the lower jar.
Zilon stood straight and walked back to the sun clock.
' though is it me or it seems heavier to walk ' Zilon thought inwardly before dismissing the thought.
Looking at the suns for a brief moment before facing the ground again.
" First sun points at 6 the second one points at 4, how do I address this though....maybe I have to observe the second suns orbit, will it stay were it is currently, or will it set the same time with the first sun... " Zilon nodded as he now knew what to do .
" The best I can do is observe"
With that in mind he walked towards the house door and stood there to get a clear view of the water clocks and the two suns.
The roof stretched just enough to shade him from the sun's ray but it still reached his shoes.
Zilon stood there as time went slowly he had to lean back on the door so that he won't have to sit down so soon.
At some point the hour mark passed, and Zilon had to walk back towards the tree to reset the timer for the smaller water clock again.
He walk pass the sun clock and gave it a quick glance, nodding his head as he notes the time.
' at this point I wish I could really start doing something interesting ' Zilon sighed as he started to think about his situation more and more.
He walk back to his earlier position, leaning his back to the door, he closed his eyes and tried to focus on his body.
He tried to focus on the middle point of his body, near his abdomen and noticed how energy seems to be pulsing there.
It took him a while and he tried different things but ultimately it lead him to conclusion.
' *sigh* I see so it's not only about the stubborn mana, my body seems to have places that energy doesn't reach there, in other words there are sections in my body that needs to unlocked...if I want to be able to use Mana ' Zilon thought inwardly.
" No wonder those skills didn't activate" Zilon shook his head he saw the huge work in front of him.
" So many work just from the beginning" Zilon had a complex expression on his face.
' is it...is it really worth it, what does it change even if I could tell time '
Zilon exhale a big puff of air and shifted back his attention back to the sky.
" It seems like the smaller sun is moving away from the main sun " Zilon walked towards the sun clock.
"This confirms it " Zilon said as he stared at the clock which had the first shadow of the bigger sun pointing in between 7 and 8, while the other shadow pointing in between 3 and 4.
" This is not looking good..."
" At this point this confirms that the two suns aren't following the same orbit, which means I can only focus on one sun, the other sun isn't giving out the right time Since it's moving backwards" Zilon said as he came to the conclusion.
That was the only way he could measure the time, since in the very beginning he has only been monitoring one shadow and that was of the bigger sun.
"Though there is a problem to this, if I do that I can't know which sun goes down first, if the first sun is the one that goes down first then I will have to recalculate the time backwards.....this isn't ideal" Zilon held his chin as he felt a small headache.
" No matter.....in the end there isn't much I can do "
Zilon look at the water clock and noticed how the water was now by half.
' I think I should stay close to the water until it runs out, it's kinda stressful going back and forth, though it's exercise ' Zilon scratched his face and walked back to the tree sitting down he rest his back on the tree.
A small gust of wind swept passed the area.
The tree shook as if it were alive and dancing slowly to the rhythm of the wind, small dead leaves fell down to the ground.
Zilon closed his eyes as he felt more refreshed, but he had to open his eyes as he could not afford to sleep at this moment.
And slowly the hour mark was complete and Zilon , painstakingly turned the jar upside down resetting the timer again.
He stood up and went back towards the door, where he was standing earlier.
Zilon passed by the sun clock and nods his head when he saw the time was finally 8.
He also noticed how the suns rays were still on his shoes , which means....
' The sun hasn't started going down yet ....'
"Either way it will eventually, I just want to be done with this quickly!, it's really annoying when your only doing one thing, I guess the ancient civilization were more patient than anyone for them to able to discover this " Zilon sighed as he felt himself reaching his limits.
No one to talk too, nothing to pass time with, no phone,no laptop, no electricity, nothing....
It was quite normal for his paranoia to start up ,plus the pressure of also not having to sleep while mid process.
"It's a real pain, I miss the modern days " Zilon sighed softly still trying to think of positive things that could lighten his mood a bit.
"Which reminds me.....how the heck am I even supposed to monitor time at night" Zilon slammed his forehead as he found two more problems apart from the third one.
" Apart from high chances of me sleeping there isn't much light that could shine on this stick right " Zilon sighed as he shook his head gently.
" Well I still have the water clocks so I might be able to still tell time Incase the moon's light isn't enough, but it comes down to the other problem, how do I not sleep from exhaustion?"
'*sigh* I will find a way.... probably ' Zilon leaned back and continued his job of observing the time with a stoic expression.
------------
Time went by slowly and Zilon was able to use a trick to pass time.
' now this isn't really ideal but I was able to start imagining different things and different scenarios of stuffs that... let's just leave those stuffs as imaginary ' Zilon giggled like a kid, ironic how he could still be considered a child cause he was still just 15.
" Now about 3 hours have already passed and the sun seems to finally show signs of going down" Zilon gave a loud yawn as he stared at the sun clock.
" It's now past 11 that's about 5.30 hours since when the second sun was up...."
"....if you add that that's about.....17+ hours I guess, hmmm weird" Zilon walked back to the door and noticed how the heat from the sun was now to his knees.
"On earth it's about 24 hours in total, the day starts around midnight 12 so the sun raises around 6:30am that's about that's about approx 6hours 30minutes, this time changes depends on the country but I am speaking based on my own perspective...."
" When the sun raises it marks the morning already but 6hours have already passed, then another 6hours passes by and by 12pm which is first 12hours of the day it's now afternoon " Zilon expression was calm as if he was just giving out reports from a piece of paper.
He the looked at the sun for a brief moment, unsurprisingly blinded by light, and was forced to stare back at the ground.
' The sun here seems even brighter than earths, or is it just my eyes that are too sensitive?'
"*Sigh* we then have about 4 hours for the evening to strike, then we have about 3 hours of evening and then finally it's night time around usually 6..."
" From 6pm to 12am is about 6hours which makes it another 12hours, 12 + 12 equals 24hours in total, at least that's what I have unconsciously observed over the years " Zilon sighed.
Zilon was silent for some moments as reasesed everything that have happened so far.
" Time here is definitely not the same here on Terra " Zilon shook his head as he decided not to voice his thoughts just yet.
Time continue on slowly and at some point Zilon had to walk back towards the sun clock as he saw the water clock dripping it's last drop under the shade of the tree.
"It's now 18 hours complete and the second sun seems to be setting" Zilon heaved a sigh of relief.
' 6 hours time in the sky before it begins to set ' Zilon noticed earlier how the smaller sun was now slightly below the bigger sun which was a hint that it was going down.
" Apart from that the smaller sun is way far to the left side making the second shadow to be pointing towards 1 " Zilon then walk to flip the smaller water clock.
Looking at the bigger one Zilon couldn't help but sigh as he noticed how the two jars were now having half of the water.
He stood up but before he turned around he noticed something.
" Right I will need to do something about that..."
Zilon walked back to the door , he smiled slightly as the suns rays were now up to his waist.
" I might need to look for another spot to hide from the heat though....."
