A voice cut Evan off before he could finish the word, and in the next instant, a hand emerged from a sudden tear in space behind him.
It seized the back of Evan's neck, flooding his body with enough light law energy to heal him and pull him back from the brink of death.
Not only did this make it harder for Evan to use Violet—since 'being on the brink of death' was a condition—but the hand then traced a seal onto the back of his neck.
The seal activated instantly, locking his ability to manipulate energy and preventing him from powering Mesarthim at all.
Under normal circumstances, such a seal would never work on him, but in his current state, Evan had no strength to resist.
Evan's eyes widened as he heard the voice and felt the familiar presence behind him. Forcing his head to turn, he called out the name of the woman holding his neck.
"Kayla? How are you—?"
