The soup Nicasi had just eaten threatened to come up again as Lysander told him what Ciprian had done to Rowan and Wren, painting a picture of pure cruelty with his words, each detail more hideous than the last.
"Ciprian pushed Wren into the pond? He erased him…just like that?" Nicasi shook his head, interrupting Lysander mid-sentence. A pang of disbelief sliced through his lungs, sharp as glass.
"He tried to, yes." Lysander studied Nicasi's face. He frowned as if realizing he'd made a miscalculation. "You heard the rest of what I said, didn't you?"
Nicasi stared at him. Part of his brain had heard him say that Rowan had stopped it, but his ability to process the rest of Lysander's words had come to a screeching halt at the idea that he'd lost the pain in the ass man who'd somehow inserted himself in Nicasi's life as his best friend.
