"Remember to focus," Shay reminded me, walking around the circle, keeping his distance from my wings. I hadn't let them out like I was supposed to, and Shay wouldn't let me hide them until they'd stretched for at least a few days. "You're looking for a specific moment. Jushion isn't going to want to share that, but remember, you're the one in control, not him."
It was impossible to tell how many days had passed, but I'd marked each session as a day. It was a weak attempt, but it was something. So, according to that scale, five days had passed, and I hadn't learned what I needed. Jushion was gaining more control of the connection, refusing to show me anything important. He thought letting me see random moments of his lives would detour me, but it did the opposite. None of it was useless because it helped me learn about his weaknesses.
