Mallia Mamet spoke without expression as the car slowly came to a halt. She pulled the door open and seated herself in the back of the taxi.
Although the taxi door hadn't fully closed, Benjamin Swantz dared not act rashly. He stood there, stunned, since Mallia didn't invite him to join her. He might as well keep his distance, after all, her face was filled with indifference.
Taxis are always racing against time for business. So, after waiting there for unusually long and seeing the man outside not getting in, the driver, growing impatient, asked.
"Are you getting in or not? Hurry up, will you? I've got other fares to catch!"
Benjamin Swantz grew even more troubled. The driver was urging him, but Mallia showed no further reaction. What should he do?
Well, since she didn't explicitly refuse, he should just get in! With apprehension, Benjamin truly braced himself and got into the car.
The car door closed with a loud thud, and the driver sped away impatiently.
