Chapter 3 - Prologue 3(corrected)

After he finished watching the sunset, Mark finally decided to go to the cabin to get ready. As he walked he could not help but look at the people who were present, parents trying in every way to get their children out of the pool, elderly couples taking walks while enjoying the sea breeze, there was even a man over 60 who seemed pretty rich with a woman around 30 holding his arm, surely the woman loved him for his personality and not for the money... maybe.

Arriving at the cabin he opened the door but was speechless. Inside was Selene in a dark blue dress that allowed the view behind her and that highlighted her minimal but seductive curves, while her golden hats leaned against her graceful back.

"How do I look?"

"Can I marry you again?" - Mark replied without a second of hesitation.

"You could just say that I'm beautiful, why do you have to come up with these answers?" - Selene couldn't help but sigh, but then she burst out laughing.

Mark smiled at her and walked over to her. He put his hand on Serena's cheek, and began to caress her affectionately. After a couple of minutes in silence but with only their feelings communicating, Selene looked at him with an air of annoyance and said.

"So how long do you want to make me wait before you start dressing?"

Mark coughed embarrassed and immediately went to get dressed. After 5 minutes he was ready with the classic black tuxedo and leather shoes.

"You were quick." - Selene told him surprised.

"Please never say those words when we are in bed."

"Haaaa I give up on you, let's go" - Selene could not help but sigh.

Arriving at the hall they noticed that there were already many people present. The room was beautifully decorated, the orchestra playing, the tables with beautiful centerpieces, and the crystal chandeliers gave that extra touch of style. After finding their table, they waited a couple of minutes for the rest of the people to arrive and once the hall was full, the captain's long speech began.

"Welcome to all ladies and gentlemen, I am happy that you have decided to travel together with our company..."

While the captain was giving the speech, in another area the workers were talking in the monitoring area.

"Damn they don't want to renew my contract."

"What can you do, you know very well that the company is having a bad time."

"A friend of mine has already been fired, it won't be long before the company shuts down, even this ship is full of defects."

While they were chatting, a red light came on.

"Dude look, it's having that problem again, better send someone to check."

"You're right. Hey newbie does us this favor. Go down to the cooling room and gently hit the thermometer a couple of times, usually, it always freezes around 70 degrees."

"Yes, sir!"

The new employee immediately dashed for the cooling room. Once he arrived he finally found the thermometer, but he noticed something strange.

"The boss told me that it always freezes around 70 ° but it is already at 100° and it is increasing. It's better if I call him."

He picked up the phone from the wall and called the control room.

"Hey, boss it's me there is a problem with the thermometer."

"What happened?"

"The thermometer marks 150 ° degrees and is rising, 180 °, 200 °, 250 °"

"Boy get out now NOW!"

'BOOM !!!'

But before the boy could do anything, an explosion occurred.

The captain was continuing his interminable speech, but suddenly there was a deafening sound and the ship began to swing.

"What happen!?"

"What was that sound !?"

"Mom I'm afraid"

"Don't worry honey it's ok, mom and dad are here"

Screams of children and parents trying to calm them, people screaming to understand what had happened. The lucky ones had only minor injuries while the most unfortunate were those who were under the crystal chandeliers that ended up being crushed.

Mark struggled to his feet, turned his gaze on Selene, and immediately went to help her.

"Selene you are fine right?!" -He asked with much concern in his voice.

"Yes I'm fine, I just slipped out of my chair" - She said smiling but her expression froze as soon as she saw the show in front of her.

"How did this happen, Mark do you think we crashed?"

"I doubt it, from the sound it sounded more like an explosion" - Assumed Mark, in fact they received the information of the captain who tried to calm them down.

"Please pay attention, the ship has been damaged so I have to ask you all to head to the emergency boats, don't panic, the ship is built to stay afloat as long as possible. "

Hearing the captain's voice, the people were able to calm down, so they began to walk towards the lifeboats. Many people wept over the loss of loved ones while others kept repeating nonsense under their breath while laughing like crazy. When they got to the lifeboats, they lined up and began to go up one at a time, but when it was Mark and Selene's turn another explosion occurred.

BOOM !!

The ship rocked again and some people fell off the ship's railing. As the ship stabilized, a fat pig woman at the back of the line began to push people to make their way to the lifeboats.

"Get out of the way I don't want to die in this ship."

The moment those words came out the real hell began, people began to push each other to get into the lifeboat as soon as possible. The fat woman came to the head of the line and pushed Mark and Selene away almost knocking them off the railing.

"You are crazy, your actions have done nothing but cause this mass hysteria"

Mark yelled at her angrily. But the woman did not hear him and threw herself into the lifeboat, but due to her weight combined with that of the people already present the lifeboat broke, causing both the people and the other connected lifeboats to fall.

When the lifeboats fell, people also started diving into the water to get the chance to get on them.

"Selene, let's get out of here, this place has become a madhouse" - Mark said as he took her hand and they got away from where the lifeboats were before.

"But what can we do, getting into the water is impossible, look they're fighting for the lifeboats that are left" - Said Selene with disgust as she pointed to the water.

Leaning over the railing, Mark could see how people pushed or hit each other just to get into a lifeboat. Mark was disgusted by the sight and those who suffered the most were the elderly and the little ones. He would have liked to do something for them but he too was in a situation where he could not help others. Detaching himself from the railing he tried to think of a solution when suddenly he remembered something.

"I have a plan. When we got on the ship they gave us an instruction booklet and on one of the pages it said that in the warehouse at the stern of the ship there are inflatable emergency lifeboats."

"It is the only possible solution, while we are going we should take food, water, and a change, no one knows how much we will be missing" - Selene replied as she began to walk.

By the time they got to the stern of the ship, they had managed to find enough supplies, but when they entered the warehouse they noticed that there was only a lifeboat left.

"It seems we weren't the only ones who read the book, luckily there is one left" - Mark sighed in relief.

"You have to pull the rope and the lifeboat will inflate" - Pointed out Selene.

"Understood, but first let's move to a point that is as close to the water as possible so that if we dive in, we won't feel the impact too much."

While they were looking for a good spot to launch, they heard a scream from behind.

"Please let us come with you. The warehouse was empty, I beg you."

Hearing it, Mark was about to say no, especially when he saw how people behave in a crisis, but when he turned around, he saw that behind the man, there was a pregnant woman. Mark did not define himself as a saint who would sacrifice himself for others, but that does not mean that he would have denied birth to a child. Turning her head towards Selena, the latter nodded to him.

"You can come but we will not share the resources."

"Ye-yes, we have ours. Thank you, thank you very much "- The man replied crying as he hugged his wife.

When they finished talking, they headed for the lowest point and threw the lifeboat into the water.

"Ok, to my three we go... 3, 2, 1 now" - Mark and the others dived.
