While Andes was dealing with the border war to the south and Vlad the politics and intrigue within Târgoviște which was officially named the capital of Wallachia, Lord Luca the noble in charge of the Northern front marched un-contended through the north trench lines.
Most if not all of Hungary troops were moved to defend the southern borders, and Lord Luca's "army" was marching past the border that connected all three of the nations (I.E the German Border State, Wallachia, and Hungary) which was mutually agreed upon awhile ago to be left alone when they were at peace.
Now though? It was easy to cross and what few trenches that were left there came into a state of disrepair. So the Wallachian's walked through the deserted northern borders and into Hungary. Upon crossing the border into the hostile nation the "army" started marching southwest towards the capital of Hungary.
Lord Luca's forces were entirely comprised of Militia and fresh recruits that know how to use a musket. Its size was about three thousand strong though it was mostly an Auxiliary force. It had only fifteen eight-pound cannons which became the most common ones to possess after the one-pound cannon.
Though the force had the cannons they had no experience using them, the militia knows how to use the one-pounders but most of them came from rural towns so they never afforded an eight-pounder before let alone used it, with the new recruits not knowing how to use the cannons at all.
The reason for a force such as this having such weaponry yet not knowing how to use it is that they were not going to use them but have their allies if they show up use the cannons instead. This would hopefully build trust between the two forces and make it easier to weaken the capital of Hungary. Though the plan can backfire it was the only real option Luca had with an inexperienced force.
Luca had no plans of taking the capital. He doubted that a force comprised of two thousand Militia and roughly a thousand new recruits would even stand a chance against a thousand veterans let alone an entire enemy capital.
Even with the extra men, they could get with the GBS it wouldn't be more than enough to hold the city for five months maximum. Luckily they aren't being sent in as cannon fodder as the usual noble would do.
After a few hours of marching, a scout of Luca's forces spotted an army holding the flag of the German Border State. It was the normal Hungary flag but with an Iron Cross replacing its white lines on the top left and bottom right sides.
Soon the Two forces met with their commanders at the forefront.
"I am commander Enet, you are?" The bulky Hungarian commander questioned Luca using German the standardized language nowadays.
"I am Lord Luca, commander of this force, I assume that the German Border State has accepted our plan?" Luca responded to the Hungarian.
"We prefer Allied German State, either way, we welcome your plan to liberate our people from that tyrant who's stolen our realm." Commander Enet said spitting on the ground with disgust evident in his glare.
"I have two thousand men with me, we weren't able to bring more than them." Enet composed himself and explained to the Wallachian Commander.
"It will do, I can determine you know our strategy?" Luca asked Enet.
"I do, by now they've thrown the militia and anyone with guns into the capital. Their force may reach nine thousand though mostly filled with greenhorns." Enet estimated the enemy's strength.
"Then we should be able to hold them within the confines of the capital until the rest of Wallachias forces arrive." Luca thought aloud.
"If they don't decide they'd rather a field battle than the siege we have planned for them." Enet replied to the Wallachian lord's thoughts.
"Aye, that would put a hole in our plans but I reckon we can take out enough of em' to keep the advantage, always have the option to retreat as well." A man in a steel chest plate and helm with a spike in a similar design to that of Vlad's army in our timeline added their input.
"Indeed, sir Dan, for now, let's assume that everything can go against the original plan." Lord Luca said.
After their short conversation, the two forces combined into one and started marching towards the capital of Hungary. Unexpectedly along the way, many Hungarians took up arms and joined the joint forces.
Many citizens were not happy with the current rule of Hungary and we're just laying in wait for an opportunity to revolt. Now was the perfect time to do so.
After the great catholic massacre, Hungary was in a state of chaos when a lord took over and inserted themselves as the singular ruler. This did not boat well for the Hungarians as their nation became a dictatorship under the illegitimate rule of a false lord in the eyes of its citizens.
Soon the force of only five thousand became seven thousand when reaching the capital city of Hungary. The combined force built a traditional Austrian fortification dating back to the Austrian independence war.
"Fire the artillery!" one of the officers yelled to the cannon crews. In response, a hundred cannons fired upon the walls of Buda.
The thunder of the cannons and the destructive force of their ammunition scared the untrained troops of both forces but the Wallachian Hungarian troops managed to recompose themselves.
The Hungarians weren't able to equip themselves with cannons, most if not all engineers left to the German Border State or Germany itself. No one would sell them cannons either.
Hungarian militiamen fired their muskets into the combined forces trench line missing their shots or having their targets duck into the trenches.
hundreds of Hungarians we're killed with both cannon and musket balls. Smoke filled the air threatening to suffocate the birds in the sky. Blood ran through the trenches and rained off of the city walls.
Days went by before the walls began to form heavy cracks and threaten to collapse. Fearing that the city would be overrun the Hungarian forces pulled off the walls and set up into a chokepoint within the city.
The Hungarian forces were brought down to seven thousand troops while the combined forces had lost only a thousand troops. The heavy cannon fire and trenches gave the combined force the advantage.
On the fifth day, the Wallachian army had arrived, and with their added cannons the walls collapsed. the seven thousand professional troops of the combined army charged into the fray first.
They formed columns and fired at the Hungarian soldiers then charged with their bayonets. The militia and drafted Hungarians lost all morale when thousands of them dropped dead in a single volley with armored veterans charging them.
Many retreated to the castle, others surrendered, and most ran of them ran away. By the time the rest of the combined forces army arrived on the scene only three thousand enemies remained inside the cities castle.
"Milord, there are no more hostiles left inside the city, the castle is now open for siege. What are your orders?" Lord Luca asked Andes
"We bombard the castle until the walls fall or they raise the white flag." Andes ordered.
"Yes sir!" Luca replied while saluting in Austrian style. "Fire the cannons until those damnable walls fall or they raise the white flag!" Luca yelled to the cannon crews.
"Troops build trenches and get ready to swarm the castle walls!" Sir Dan yelled to the rest of the infantry.
Cannons and muskets fired out destruction like dragons. Men fell dead in mud and blood with rivers of the substance filling the streets. Smoke once again rose to the heavens and threatened to choke any birds in the sky above.
Soon the Hungarians stopped popping their heads out from the castle walls. Then after an hour of cannon fire, the white flag was raised by the Hungarians.
The self-proclaimed ruler left his castle with an escort from his house guard meeting with an equally sized group with both leaders having a white handkerchief tied to their pinkie, a sign of surrender made popular by the current German Emperor since carrying a flag became impractical.
"I King Firéne Manga surrender on the condition of the lives of myself and my family." Firéne said submitting himself to his fate.
"I accept your surrender in the name of our Voivode." Marshal Andes the lead of Wallachia's group said.
The castle and city were then occupied by the Hungarian troops while the Wallachian army marched back to Târgoviște.
========================
Ok so this chapter took a lot more time for me to work on than I thought, so it put me far more behind schedule than it aught of.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chap, power stone, commit, and review.
And from now on the discord link shall be in the Authors Thoughts bubble.
[PS. This is way after writing this chapter I've had a lot of setbacks, bad time management, things in my personal life like my B-day and other more personal matters, and some mental issues, so it will be difficult to churn out chapters but I'm going to do my best with daily chap uploads starting around next Thursday. why then? Time. I don't really have a good sense of time (or direction 😅)
I hope you enjoyed this chapter because it took me awhile to put together.]
