Chapter 24 - The Finale (Part 2)

Following the intense battle between Leesa and Hendricus, a one-hour resting period began. Given Hendricus's evident tiredness, this pause provided him with a much-needed break to recover. The second round of the finale was set to feature Greig from the mage's team and Hendricus from the commoner's team. As the hour passed, both contenders appeared on the arena battlefield, ready to continue the competition. Their determination and readiness to fight was palpable, setting the stage for another thrilling showdown.

The match unfolded with gripping vigour, as Hendricus displayed unwavering determination despite enduring multiple attacks. Aware that he had already lost the first round, this final opportunity to secure a victory caused Hendricus to persist. However, facing off against the formidable mage, Greig, posed a substantial challenge. Greig possessed a wide array of magical capabilities, making it critical for Hendricus to plot a reliable strategy to stand a chance.

Unfortunately, strategic planning was not Hendricus's strong point, and he lacked the mindset of a tactical opponent capable of effectively countering Greig's abilities. As a result, the odds seemed stacked against Hendricus, making the battle a harsh struggle for him. At the end of the second round, Greig emerged victorious, securing a decisive win over Hendricus.

This arranged the stage for the final round of the tournament, where Greig and Leesa stood as equals with their respective points. The suspense in the air reached its peak as the audience eagerly awaited the ultimate showdown to determine the winner of the competition. All eyes were on Greig and Leesa as they prepared to face each other in a battle that would determine the foremost champion.

As the final round commenced, Greig took the initiative, installing his most potent attack, a wide magic circle that covered the entire fighting ring. This challenging attack required a substantial level of mana control and endurance to sustain over an extended period. The size of the circle was big enough to prove Greig's exceptional mastery of his mana power, granting him a significant advantage in the battle against Leesa. Within the magic circle, opponents could be targeted relentlessly from any direction at the caster's discretion.

With Leesa now using her sword as part of her strategic plan to defeat Greig, he also unleashed this attack for the first time during this competition. Although Leesa was unfamiliar with this specific attack and she had no further experience with this type of attack, she had researched various offensive and defensive magic techniques. So, she knew exactly what would happen if she showed even the slightest weakness.

As the strikes became consistent, Leesa managed to maintain her stance while defending herself from the attacks. After some time, she adapted to fighting like this with her swiftness as her significant help and noticed that as she approached him, Greig's strikes weakened, indicating his fear of getting hurt. Despite his efforts to keep her at bay, Leesa closed the distance between them, and now they stood face to face, with the clashing of Leesa's sword to Greig's attacks and close enough to be able to hear each other amidst these high-density attacks. And Greig took this chance to speak with Leesa.

"I waited so long for this battle and thanks to that wait I have gotten even more powerful than I was before, so you better prepare yourself."

"Huh, do I know you? Have we met before?" inquired Leesa thinking there was no way she knew any man from this life at least, who will have a grudge against her as she has been living a quiet life here.

"What! I searched for you in every living realm and even escaped from hell to seek revenge against you. Do you really not remember who I am?"

"No"

"....." Greig's increased attacking power was fuelled by anger, but it proved futile against Leesa's unmatched agility. Her swift movements and skilful evasion left Greig unable to land a successful blow.

Leesa pressures her brain a little bit "That insec... no wait, F.. F.. Flea?"

"Flea who?"

"Not you then"

"You seriously don't remember me, huh."

"Well..."

"And here I waited all those years to finally get a chance to be even with you and to think that you don't even remember who I am."

"Arg, this is ridiculous, if I don't even remember you then that means you are not worthy to be remembered. So now stop pestering my brain and get lost," Leesa broke her defensive mode and attacked.

The attack was on point, it took some time for the audience to realize what Jeremy and Flavian saw and understood, something was happening with Greig. By the looks of it, there seemed to be a heavy discussion going on between Greig and Leesa during their match. Greig's mana level was on par with Jeremy, so he could easily have used a protection spell on himself before Leesa attacked. Sensing an unusual air surrounding Greig, Jeremy pondered whether the mysterious lady Flavian mentioned could possibly be Greig's eternal rival, the very person he had tirelessly trained to crush. Meanwhile, Flavian's curiosity heightened, seeking to discover Leesa and Greig's conversation and if Leesa knew Greig from before.

The match continued, unbeknownst to Greig, as he wrestled with the realization that his emotions were overpowering his ability to control his mana effectively.

"I held the position of the demon king's successor, possessing sins second only to the demon king himself. Everything was going alright and according to my plan but then you appeared out of nowhere snatching my position, possessing sins far greater than the demon king himself."

"Wait plan?... THE WAR! It was your doing?"

"Ha, yes did you really believe that the angels and demons started a war just because they crashed carrying out their work? Hah nonsense, it was all my doing to throw the demon lord out of his throne."

"Wow, but in my defence, I didn't know that and on top of that, I was sent to reincarnate. So why didn't you just carry out your plan, you could have got to rule hell for the time I was living anyways."

"Huh, like hell do you think it's that easy, the moment you were announced to be the next-in-line demon lord even if my plan worked, I could not be the ruler of hell."
