Chapter 8 - Chapter 8- Lorelei vs. Tobias

Lorelei's POV

It was finally the day of the big battle. The past few days had been eventful, leading up to this moment. Having Aster come seemed to be the right idea like a breath of air instead of suffocation. Excitement bubbled in my chest, but also something else—an unshakable determination.

I have shown Aster how hard his mom works, and I want to win this to show him that it was all worth it. This time, I will do more than put up a fight. But Tobias… I don't know much about his training or tactics. He might have something unexpected up his sleeve.

I sighed, pushing away any lingering doubts, and settled off the battlefield. There's nothing I can do but watch. Let's see how this plays out.

As I stepped onto the battlefield, the familiar roar of the Indigo Plateau crowd filled my ears. It was deafening, but I had learned long ago to tune it out.

I stood tall, adjusting my glasses. Stay focused. Stay sharp.

Across from me, Tobias looked calm—too calm. He had the kind of confidence that came from real experience, the kind that told me he wasn't here to lose.

I clenched my fists. Good. I don't want an easy battle.

And yet… there was something about this match that felt different. An urgency I couldn't quite place. I had seen Tobias battle before. His Dragonite was a powerhouse, an absolute juggernaut that swept through Ethan's Lapras like it was nothing.

Lapras.

My heart tightened. I had trained mine since it was small. She was strong, resilient—but would it be enough? I shook my head, forcing the doubt away. I can't afford distractions.

The referee raised a hand.

Referee:"This is a full six-on-six battle! The challenger may switch Pokémon, while the Elite Four member may not. Let the battle begin!"

I exhaled. No more second-guessing. I am the wall that stands between Tobias and the Champion. And I will not fall.

Indigo Plateau – Elite Four Arena

Battle Format: 6v6, Full BattleRules: Only the challenger (Tobias) can switch Pokémon.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Lorelei, the Ice-type master of the Kanto Elite Four, stepped forward to defend her title. Across from her stood Tobias, a formidable trainer whose strength was already well-known.

The referee raised a hand.

Referee:"This is a full six-on-six battle! The challenger may switch Pokémon, while the Elite Four member may not. Let the battle begin!"

Round 1: Cloyster vs. Arcanine

Tobias led with Arcanine—a strong choice with power and versatility. But I had anticipated something aggressive.

I threw out Cloyster, my defensive wall.

Arcanine used Thunder Fang!— Super-effective, but Cloyster's defense held strong.

"Cloyster, Shell Smash!"— Defense lowered, but Cloyster's Attack and Speed surged.

Tobias smirked. "Flare Blitz!"

Arcanine slammed into Cloyster with full force, flames bursting around them. I tensed—this was risky.

The dust cleared.

Cloyster was barely standing, Focus Sash holding on by a thread.

I didn't waste a second. "Hydro Pump!"

A devastating blast of water sent Arcanine flying.

Tobias' Arcanine is unable to battle!

It was a small victory, but I wasn't celebrating yet- I was not done.

Round 2: Cloyster vs. Alakazam

Tobias didn't hesitate. He sent out Alakazam. Fast. Too fast.

I barely had time to react.

"Alakazam, Focus Blast!"

A direct hit. Cloyster was obliterated instantly.

Cloyster is unable to battle!

Not unexpected, but still frustrating. Time to slow things down.

Round 3: Slowbro vs. Alakazam

I tossed out Slowbro, my calm, unshakable tank.

I think Tobias knew what I was doing and wanted to end it quickly, but unknowingly underestimated him for the same reason.

"Thunderbolt!"

The electricity surged through Slowbro—but it barely flinched.

"Calm Mind."

A glow surrounded Slowbro. Special Attack and Special Defense rose.

Tobias frowned. "Shadow Ball!"

A solid hit—but not enough. Slowbroshrugged it off.

I stayed cool. "Scald."

The attack struck Alakazamand burned it. Perfect. Its offensive power was weakened now.

Another Thunderbolt from Alakazam—but the burn had sapped too much strength.

"Psychic!"

The mental blast crushedAlakazam.

Tobias' Alakazam is unable to battle!

We were even now. But I knew what was coming next.

Round 4: Slowbro vs. Gengar

Tobias sent out Gengar.

Fast. Unpredictable. Dangerous.

"Shadow Ball!"

Slowbro never stood a chance. The attack hit like a sledgehammer.

Slowbro is unable to battle!

I exhaled. Alright, Tobias. Let's see how you handle this.

Round 5: Dewgong vs. Gengar

I sent out Dewgong, my most experienced Pokémon. My first partner.

Gengar used Thunderbolt!— A strong hit, but Dewgong endured.

"Ice Beam!"

The freezing blast struck Gengar hard.

Then—I saw it.

Frost crept over Gengar's body.

I blinked. Tobias' eyes widened.

Gengar was frozen solid.

Now's my chance. "Surf!"

A crushing wave swept Gengar away.

Tobias' Gengar is unable to battle!

I exhaled. Good. But this wasn't over yet.

Round 6: Dewgong vs. Gyarados

Tobias sent out Gyarados—his best counter to my team so far.

Gyarados' Intimidate lowered Dewgong's Attack.

I tensed. This was dangerous.

Tobias smirked. "Dragon Dance."

Gyarados' Attack and Speed rose.

I couldn't let him set up. "Thunderbolt!"

A super-effective hit! Electricity surged through Gyarados.

But—it wasn't enough.

Tobias grinned. "Waterfall!"

Gyarados crashed into Dewgong with immense force.

Dewgong is unable to battle!

I clenched my jaw. That Dragon Dance boost made things harder.

Round 7: Jynx vs. Gyarados

I sent out Jynx—one of my fastest Pokémon.

Gyaradosrushed in for another Waterfall.

"Jynx, dodge!"

She slipped aside at the last second.

"Lovely Kiss!"

Gyarados fell asleep!

I felt my confidence return. "Psychic!"

A strong hit—but not enough to finish it.

Gyaradosstirred but didn't wake up.

"Again!"

Another Psychic. Gyarados shuddered.

Then—it started moving.

Too late.

One last Psychic, and Gyarados collapsed.

Tobias' Gyarados is unable to battle!

I let out a slow breath. Almost there.

Round 8: Jynx vs. Rhydon

Tobias sent out Rhydon.

A mistake? No. A sacrifice.

"Rhydon, Megahorn!"

Jynxdidn't stand a chance. The bug-type move slammed into her.

Jynx is unable to battle!

I frowned. Why waste Rhydon like this?

Then I realized—he was buying time.

I didn't have the luxury of switching.

I will skip over Lapras vs. Rhydon= Lapras wins.

Final Round: Lapras vs. Dragonite

This was it.

Tobias' Dragonite, his ace.

I exhaled, gripping Lapras' Poké Ball tightly before throwing it.

This was the Pokémon that had beaten Ethan's Lapras. The one I needed to take down.

I narrowed my eyes. I would not let this be a repeat.

Tobias' voice was steady. "Fire Punch."

Dragonite's fist ignited as it smashed into Lapras.

I clenched my teeth—Laprasbarely survived.

One shot. That's all I needed.

"Ice Beam!"

The icy blast pierced through the battlefield, hitting Dragonite square in the chest.

Silence.

Then—Dragonitecollapsed.

Tobias' Dragonite is unable to battle!

Winner: Lorelei! 🎉

I exhaled, feeling a weight lift from my shoulders.

Tobias sighed, recalling his Dragonite. "Not even the first of the Elite Four. You're stronger than they give you credit."

I adjusted my glasses, lips curving into a small smile. "Well, You certainly gave me a challenge. But you'll need more than power to defeat the Elite Four."

The crowd erupted into cheers, but I barely noticed.

In the midst of this, Tobias disappeared off the stage.
