"What are your names?" one of the guards inquired.
"Alexander and Nyx Touch!" Alex introduced them, while Nyx displayed no reaction to his use of his family name.
The guard nodded before asking another question. "Is this your first time here?"
"Yes!" Alex replied.
"Place your hand on the sensor. We'll verify if you have any criminal records before issuing a temporary resident license. You can either fully register at the administrative buildings for normal citizenship or head to the Adventurer's Guild, which is the usual route for newcomers in this city."
Alex acknowledged the head guard's explanation and stepped forward, placing his left palm on the magical sensor, which functioned like a digital scanner. Each person had a unique magical signature, so if he had any criminal history, it would be revealed.
