Chapter 3 - New Allies

The man and the woman went to the bar in town after they got back that morning.

"Come on, cheer up. I said it was okay that you keep everything from the wolf to get some silver," said the woman. The man just sat at the table with his arms crossed and his chin on his arms with a sulking expression on his face. Two men walk up to the table from the front of the bar with drinks.

"What's up with him?" asks the man with the heavy armor.

"Well, he got into a little bit of trouble this morning with nature."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Well he was being attacked by dire wolves."

"How did he get himself into that situation in the first place?"

"Don't know, all I heard was him yelling and went to him to see he got pinned down by one of them. If I hadn't went to him, he would be died."

"He should be happy you saved his life."

"He is, probably, but he's upset that he lost his tent." The other man came up from behind the women.

"Can't he just get another one?" asked the other man.

"Don't know, he wouldn't talk to me at all the whole walk here."

"Well we're just going to make him snap out of it." said the heavly armored man as he approached the man.

"Hey, get yourself together man and stop worrying about a tent, at least your not died, right?" he said as he shook the man vigorously.

"What's the point, I put just about what I had left towards that tent." said the man sadly.

"If I knew all of that was going to happen to me I would have just put what I had towards a room at the inn instead of that tent." Everyone went silent as they sipped on their drinks. The heavly armored man extended his arm out towards the man and the man looked up.

"Look, I don't know what is going on, but here is what we got for the dire wolf." The man sat there looking at his hand.

"Come on, after everything you been through you need this more then us right now." The man held his hand out and the heavy armored man open his hand to drop forty-five silver pieces into his hand.

"Thanks." he said with a slight smile.

"No problem, anyway, what did happen to you?"

"Well, I was just waking up and when I went to wash off my face one of those basters came up behind me. When I got back to my camp another was there."

"Well that unfortunate, oh, before we continue our conversation we should introduce ourselves. I'm Arnold, the lady over there is Lyra and the man with sword is Daniel. What's your name?"

"Name's Christopher, but you can just call me Chris for short," the man responded.

"Nice to meet you Chris," said Lyra

"So how long you been here?" asked Arnold.

"I've only been here for about two days, and it's already starting out pretty rough for me."

"Don't worry, everything should start to change soon enough while your with us." says Daniel.

"We already talked about this Daniel, we just can't let anyone join us after what happened last time." says Arnold.

"It might be good to have a fourth member, and besides, it seems like he doesn't know what he's doing at all." Lyra inputs

"Maybe, but we don't know what might happen if we let him come along."

"Yeah, but if we don't at least see where things will go we might miss out on something nice." says Daniel.

"I can hear you guys talking about me you know. Also, what do you mean after what happened last time." asks Chris confused. All the chattering went silent and everyones face turned serious.

"A few months ago, someone almost got us killed back in a town not too far from here." says Arnold.

"We let him join our group because he was struggling and had no one to help him, or so we thought." Lyra continue.

"One day while we were in a forest near the town he told us that he knew a hunting spot to get some material for some new gear." Daniel followed up.

"When we got to the spot we were ambushed by two people and tied up, after that we saw the bastard talking to the other two that just bound us up, and when we saw that, we knew he played us from the start." Arnold sayed with his teeth tightly clenched together.

"They took our stuff, beat us up and left us out in the woods for death, if it wasn't for someone exploring the forest that night we would have been died. And when we got back to the town and look for them, they were gone without a trace," Daniel said.

"We don't have trust issues, but that guy felt off to all of us. If we would had just trusted our guts that day we would have never had any problems in the first place," stated Lyra.

"Wow, not only was that not too long ago, it was also in another town close by," said Chris empathetically.

"Mhm, and we all meet in that town 3 years ago so we been through a lot together within that time, and it's not like any of us was traumatized that night, but we had to adjust how we interact with people for all of our safety and not just one," Lyra elaborated.

"Hmm," Chris exhaled while drinking the rest of his drink.

"Well I guess I'll be on my way then, it was nice meeting you guys," says chris as he gets up and starts to walk towards the bar entrance.

"Wait, your just going to leave after that?" Daniel asked.

"Yeah, but it's not like that I don't want to hang out with you guys, I just don't want to cause any trouble for you either, also I just can't rely on other people to carry me around all the time, I need the learn the areas and what the hell most the things are that I've been seeing."

"It's not that we don't trust you, you seem more trust worthy then that other guy," says Lyra.

"And who said we would be carrying you around all the time, we will be there to help, but you need to be able to carry your own weight when needed," says Arnold. Chris look at them as if he was unsure on what he wants to do.

"How about this, lets all leave right now and go around the town a bit and go meet with the locals, huh?" Daniel expressed with commitment.

"Yeah, that's a great idea, my it'll be fun," Lyra said with her hand on his shoulder.

"Okay, I guess I can hang around for a bit with you guys."

"YES!" says Daniel energetically.

"Then it's a plan, let's finish our drinks and head out," says Arnold. The rest of them finish their drinks and they head out to the town. While walking around Chris is introduce to more of the town then he thought there ways. They went to an alchemist and was shown his potions and elixirs, then they went to a historian to see books on the local creatures, and went to a mage to see what magic books they had. The night started to kick in and before they all called it a night they went to the local blacksmith of the town.

"Hello and what can I do for you," says the blacksmith cheerfully.

"We're here to get our friend a weapon," says Arnold.

"I already have a weapon," says Chris

"Really, it doesn't seem like it."

"My braces." Arnold looks down at Chris's arms and snickers.

"Well going to need something else too.'

"Unless I can get a better set of braces then I'm all good." The blacksmith looks at the braces with his hands on his chin.

"Well if your not going to get anything else other than braces then I could make you some custom ones by tomorrow." says the blacksmith.

"Really?"

"Yeah, it's no big deal. Just remember to pick them up, alright?"

"Okay, thanks," and they started to head towards the inn to check in for the night.

"You are one interesting person, you know that," says Arnold.

"Sure, but you might find that I'm more than the eye can see," says Chris. They got to the inn, got their room keys and checked into their rooms.

"Can't want to see what tomorrow is going to be like," Chris said to himself.

"Hopefully everything will be fine, but one thing is for sure, I think we all made the right choice today."
