Chapter 4 - The Grandmaster

"Working student? of course you're accepted! in fact you won't even have to register as a working student, we will pay all your living expenses as long as you're registered here as a student." The headmaster immediately exclaimed, if he missed the chance for his school to raise such a genius then he would be the dumbest person in the world.

"You'll really pay for all my living expenses? there must be strings attached to this right?" Wu Yu was a little suspicious of the headmaster, after all, he knew there was no free meal in the world.

The headmaster quickly replied, "Nope no strings attached, as long as you compete all five years here we'll cover all your living expenses!"

Wu Yu was still suspicious of the headmaster, especially after hearing that there were no strings attached. He might have thought about it if there were drawbacks as long as they didn't effect his freedom so he asked, "Why? what benefits do you get out of this?"

Understanding Wu Yu's suspicions, the headmaster decided that being truthful right now would be his best bet, "Don't get me wrong, although there are no strings attached to you, we benefit a lot just by you being here and if you graduate here, the benefits would be unimaginable!"

After Wu Yu thought about the headmaster's words, he felt they were reasonable, if a genius like him graduated from this academy and becomes a big name in the future, the benefits this school would gain would be unimaginable, "So you're taking a gamble on me?"

The headmaster nodded, "Yes a big gamble, with little to no risks besides loosing a bit of money."

Wu Yu saw really no drawback that would be detrimental to him so he accepted, "Alright, I accept your terms, but I still want to be a working student, I still need my own money after all."

Furrowing his brows the headmaster asked, "are you sure? you'd be loosing time you could be cultivating."

Wu Yu naturally understood this aspect but still chose to go though with his decision, "I'm sure, theres a certain job I want to do and get better at, anyway, can I leave now?"

Nodding, the headmaster let Wu Yu leave, "Alright, let me show you to your dorm room first though." As he said that he took the lead and led Wu Yu to his dorm room.

"This is your room, you might be the first one here since the school term dosn't start until 3 months later, make yourself comfortable. Well this is it, If you have any problems, come to me personally whenever you want." After the headmaster said his part, he left Wu Yu to his own devices.

Walking into the room, Wu Yu observed the interior designs and was amazed at how luxurious the room was for an academy dorm room. What Wu Yu didn't know was that this particular dorm room was a special one that the academy kept for the best of talents. Compared to the other dorms in the school the others were completely lackluster to this one.

Inside, Wu Yu found a beautifully designed living space with three red couches with golden linings surrounding a glass table plated in gold. Ten closed doors, 9 plated in gold with a name engraved on each door were lined on each side walls of the room while the center wall had a huge window and various plants lined up on the window sill.

There was only one door that wasn't engraved with any name so Wu Yu assumed it was his room and walked up to it. Turning the knob, Wu Yu entered the room. What he saw inside didn't really surprise him as it was pretty much the same design as the living room.

A large bed on the left right side, of course the color scheme as you have guessed it, red and gold, a large cabinet sat next to it while a couch, the same as the one in the living room, sat on the opposite side of the room. There was no window in the room but to make up for the lack of light, the room was installed with a big chandelier that had to be manually lit with a fire.

Standing in the dark room, Wu Yu sighed and sat on the couch. He observed ever nook and cranny of the room and thought to himself, 'I can't believe how easy it is to turn your life around in this world.' If anyone heard Wu Yu's thoughts right now they would be cursing him for his ignorance.

Yeah, it's easy to turn your life around when you have monstrous talent but think about how hard is for us common folk to achieve what you have right now! they would definitely say. As he was lost in his thoughts, the sudden grumbling of his stomach awoke him from his train of thoughts, "That's right, I haven't eaten anything since this morning."

Patting his growling tummy, Wu Yu got up off the couch and left his room. As he was about to leave the dorm, the sudden sound of broken glass alerted him, it came from one one of the rooms near the exit. Wu Yu thought he was the only one in the dorm but it seems he was wrong, he looked at the door that read, Lin Yuhan for a good while but his stomach urged him to eat something so he just forgot about it and left.

After Wu Yu left the dorm, the room door he was looking at opened and a young girl walked out. She had messy, medium length, dark purple hair that covered almost covered all of her facial features. Through the gaps of her messy hair, a pair of ruby red eyes shown through giving her a type of charm unique to her.

"Ara? I could've sworn there was somebody here, must be my eyes acting up again." The girls eyes flashed in a red light as she said that but immediately went away as fast as it came. Scratching her head she closed her door and locked it, never coming out again.

Back to Wu Yu , he was still wandering the halls of the school trying to find the cafeteria, like before when trying to find the main office, he struggled to find where he was going. The people he asked for directions were also of no help at all as they only pointed in one direction and told him to keep moving this way or that way.

The people here must have problems with their heads, not even knowing how to give proper directions, Wu Yu constantly grumbled to himself. Right now he was in a part of the school he had never seen before and was questioning weather there really was a cafeteria anywhere near here.

Walking through the corridor hallway, Wu Yu took notice of how narrow it was, 'why's the hall getting narrower? shouldn't it be getting wider to support the inflow of students into the cafeteria? don't tell me I'm lost." Wu Yu thought to himself. Luckily he saw a man further down the hallway and decide to ask him for directions.

Wu Yu went up to the man and asked, "Excuse me, do you mind telling me where I can find the cafeteria?"

The man in front of him had on some baggy clothing and a set of long white hair. On his head he wore a gray colored cap and a gray scarf around his neck. The man looked at Wu Yu and kindly said, "You must be a new student right? I haven't seen you around here before."

Wu Yu nodded and answered, "you're right, I just became a worker student here today and got hungry so I'm looking for the cafeteria but as you can see I'm kinda lost."

The man understood and said, "follow me, I'll take you there myself." Walking off, Wu Yu followed closely behind the man and couldn't help but be curious about this strange man. Wu Yu wasn't the type to start conversation himself but his curiosity got the best of him.

"Are you a teacher here?" Wu Yu suddenly spoke up.

The man looked at Wu Yu then shook his head and patiently explained, "No, I'm just staying here for now, people around here call me grandmaster."

"Grandmaster, sounds like a pretty important title, you must be a very important person." Wu Yu deducted but was surprised when the grandmaster shook his head again, "I may seem to hold a lot of power but I'm not as important as you think I am."

Wu Yu was confused, "then why do people call you by such a title?"

The grandmaster thought about it for a bit then answered, "it was a title given to me in the past, I guess it just carried on."

Wu Yu wasn't content on the answer but knew better than to pry into others past so he just kept silent the rest of the way to the cafeteria. The two only took a few turns here and there and finally ended up in the cafeteria. It wasn't too busy and only had a few students who minded their own business as they ate silently.

Wu Yu cupped his fist then bowed to the grandmaster and thanked him, "thank you for taking your time to guide me here, if there's anything you need help with in the future, I Wu Yu will to the best of my abilities help you."

Although what the grandmaster did for him was insignificant, Wu Yu was in a good mood and decided to grant the grandmaster this one favor. It might not sound like anything right now coming from a 6 year old but this would definitely be one of the best things the grandmaster will ever receive in his lifetime.

The grandmaster just smiled and waved it off, "don't worry about it, it wasn't any trouble." Then he left.

Watching as the grandmaster walked off, Wu Yu patted his stomach then headed off to get food. There was no one in line so Wu Yu just walked up to the man running the kitchen, "excuse me, can I get some food?"

Hearing Wu Yu the man looked up from his news article and answer Wu Yu with a bright smile as he handed Wu Yu a menu with all the food options, "Sure kid, what do you want?"

Wu Yu scanned all the menu options the pointed at three items, "this, this, and this one." The man looked at Wu Yu's picks and nodded before saying, "okay that'll be 2 silver and 25 bronze coins."

Nodding his head Wu Yu said, "ah, you can charge it on the school, they're covering all my expenses, if you don't believe me you can ask the headmaster himself, I can wait."

The man gazed at Wu Yu for a while then said, "no need, just leave me your name in case you're lying."

Wu Yu nodded and said, "my name is Wu Yu."

"Alright, you can go wait at one of the tables, your order will be up soon." The man said as he headed into the kitchen.

Looking around at all the empty tables, Wu Yu found one nearby and sat down, waiting for his food. It wasn't very long until Wu Yu could smell the food from the kitchen and started salivating.

Far away from Wu Yu at a table near the exit two boys sat side by side as they ate the meal before them. Both were completely identical in every way imaginable. Both had light blue hair and eyes, they both had the same facial structure and they both were of the same stature.

To top it off both of them even made the same actions as they moved, only one was using his left hand to eat while the other used his right.

"Brother, are you sure we're in the right school?" the brother using his left hand asked.

"I wouldn't know, you were the one who said this was definitely the right school." the right handed brother retorted.

Looking at his brother, the left handed one said, "are you blaming me when you were the cause of us getting lost?"

The right handed brother stopped eating then glared at his brother, "We weren't lost, you just never trusted my judgement when I had the map!"

"Well I wouldn't have doubted your judgement if it weren't for you constantly getting us into danger!" the left handed brother said with a hint of anger.

"Hah, who was the one that kept getting distracted which in turn led me to also get distracted and get into those dangerous situation?" The right handed brother angrily asked.

The two brothers constantly attacked each other with words with one point leading to another causing the argument to be neverending. By the time they had grown tires of arguing, almost everyone had left the dining hall, all but one person, Wu Yu, who was just finishing up his last plate of food.

Turning in his plates to the kitchen, Wu Yu was ready to head back to his room seeing as the sun was ready to set at any given moment. As he passed by the two brothers table, two hands suddenly grabbed his shoulder causing him to stop and turn around to meet the two brothers face to face.

Almost as if they had prepared all of this before, the two brothers spoke simultaneously, "Excuse me, im Huang Da/Huang Bo, do you mind telling us if this school is Nodan spirit academy?" Wu Yu was surprised by how similar the two were and didn't completely catch the name of the school they said but the name sounded so similar to Notan so he just nodded.

"Uhh... yeah."
